Tyson Gay tests positive for banned substance

http://www.usnews.com/news/sports/ar...nned-substance

The 30-year-old Gay fought back sobs in a phone conversation Sunday from Amsterdam, saying: "I don't have a sabotage story. ... I basically put my trust in someone and was let down."

Bolt will be protected - he means way too much to the sport of T&F and his country.

5 Jamaican's have failed tests now, wouldn't be surprised if there are more but never hear about it.

Not what T&F needs. This sport and its athletes will always be under suspicion of the use of performance enhancing drugs but it doesn't make these stories any less disappointing to me.

The assumption by some (here and elsewhere) that Usain Bolt is dirty and simply being protected is ********.

He's got it easy compared to baseball players.

Contrary to what most people believe, it's actually a good sign that people are getting caught doping. It is a sign that the sport takes doping seriously and has rigorous procedures in place to prevent it.

It's the sports where very few get caught, especially considering the number of professionals and the money involved, like soccer or tennis, that you really should be worried about.

Don't care. I want to see how far we can stretch the human body. If you want to be full of drugs, go for it. Break 9 seconds. Hell, break 8 seconds.

The whole sport is dirty, including Bolt, just like cycling

I personally am not real passionate about the subject, but I do feel it is cheating, taking old blood and putting in new blood? Why not just buy a robot that pedals for you when you get tired? Getting your testosterone up to 80 times higher than the normal man is like getting in one of those robots in pacific rim and racing.

Everyone cheats at all sports, I am not surprised anymore.

Remember the McGuire vs Sosa home run extravaganza a few years ago, now that was exciting.

Oh man... if Bolt ever tests positive it could be the death knell for track and field. I'm a big fan of his as I was there in person when he won the 200 m in Beijing. However if you just assume that (for example) half of all sprinters that cheat get caught and extrapolate using that assumption, that certainly doesn't leave room for many (if any) clean athletes in this sport.

Please be clean Usain!

Seriously? Haha, are you really that passionate about track and field?

The odds that Bolt is clean are about the same as it was for Lance Armstrong, 1 in a trillion. He'd have to be the greatest physical specimen who ever set foot on the earth to be doing what he's doing without PEDs

I'm confused why the topic has "Olympics" in it.

I guess because he could be banned from the olympics the punishment hasn't been handed down yet he just pulled himself from some races

Most likely because he is an Olympian and probably would have competed in the games in 3 years.

This is an interesting article (use Google translate). What it basicly says is, that these cases are not doping in the traditional sense, e.g. that athletes took steroids to get bigger/faster, but the reason for these positive tests are food supplements that contain banned substances.

it also says, that many Jamaicans get bad advice, when it comes to food supplements.

With all that said, the athletes may not have doped intentionally, but they'll still get banned nonetheless.

Everyone trots out the old "I didn't intentionally take anything, the substance must have been in something else and I mistakenly consumed it" rubbish.

No. Not at all. I just like the guy 'cause he's an absolute freak of nature and 'cause he seems to be a fun-loving dude who doesn't take anything too seriously.

Well unlike 99% of the other track athletes he does look (since his days as a junior with god-awful running technique) like one of the greatest physical specimens who ever set foot on earth. But you're right that the odds are not good, and I suspect we'll know soon enough... because if a track teammate (or teammates) feels wronged there would be a heck of a lot of motivation now to speak up.

There really is no question, the fact that he actually let's up at the end of races and still breaks world records is all you need to know
