I just got a crazy idea in my head.

...

Watching the last game against Montreal made me conjure this mock lineup:

Bergeron-Savard-Murray
Sturm (When he's back)-Kessel-Boyes

The bottom lines are self-explanatory... Maybe with a little more special K for skill.

I get the feeling that those two lines are the key to making this team better offensively given what we have. The potential chemsitry between Bergeron and Savard seems great to me (both with uncanny hockey sense) with Murray the finisher. The second line would be fast as hell, and we already know that Sturm and Boyes have chemistry together... If Kessel continues to improve, that line could be dynamite as well.

It seems odd that our three highest paid forwards haven't been given the chance to be on a line together considering all the problems we've had with scoring.

I don't know... I just get the feeling about those three together.

I would would like to try those lines. And they could work out well Bergeron came up as a winger so that wouldn't be that much of an adjustment and I think Kessel needs to be a center so I would like it if they put him there

wow that's a very good idea. I never looked at the lines that way. I hope Lewis gives it a shot.

That's actually the exact forward setup I've been wanting to see for the past couple weeks, specifically on the power play. I think Bergeron and Savard would work really well together, and Bergeron seems to compliment Murray, so those lines could do some real damage.

i wouldn't take bergeron out of the middle - he's too good of an all-around player

savard needs chemistry for him to get going, and being first line center would get the spark ignited.

Is that a polite way of saying that you don't like my lines, or a subtle way of saying that Savard should play wing (under my scenario)?

Don't know, worth a try I guess. But I think Bergeron has more chemistry with Sturm than Boyes does with Sturm. I remember Bergeron & Sturm having a lot of 2 on 1s last season, Boyes had chemistry too, but he worked in high traffic more. I'd like to see Sturm-Bergeron-Boyes
Kessel-Savard-Muzz

Like some have already said, Kessel & Savard might click together given that Kessel's style resembles Kovalchuk's a bit.

I'm open to any ideas really, but I'm hesitant for Kessel to have a center's responsibilities already. I think he needs to mature some and be better on both sides of the puck before he gets put at center. But hey it's worth a shot I guess.

I've thought about this a bunch of times and I really think it could work out nice. Put Sturm back where he belongs and have Kessel with Savard and Murray and see what happens.

You're probably right about that... It might be better to leave him on the wing and play Boyes at center.

once sturm gets back, we can get axy off the top 2 lines. thats when we can really evaluate this teams offense. this team is really missing sturm right now. axy belongs on a checking line. not on the PP and 2nd line.

i guess it's a polite way of saying i don't like the lines...b/c savard's vision and playmaking skills are also too good to put him on the wing i do like kessel in the middle though - still hoping for that three line attack thing

I agree nugs. Chiarelli talked about getting a d-man. Do you think W Primeau might be moved to make room for Kessel??Apackaged deal with a prospect to Calgary ?

Murray and Primeau to Cowtown for Warrener and Frieson/Huselius

A three line attack would be great if we had the players to pull it off.

But, I'm considering our current roster.

I agree with you here. You can't call Kessel with Axey and Donovan an "attack". It'd be 3 guys who can skate real fast and one who can actually score.

I worry we'd be even weaker than we currently are in the faceoff circle. I don't know Savard's numbers, but Bergeron has been one of our best. Kessel gets outmuscled when carrying the puck so I don't think it would be any easier for him in the circle. Anyway, according to today's globe Lewis is toying with the idea of making Kessel a 3rd line center but there was no mention of who would take his LW position.
