In conjunction with his NHL play and KHL offer, I'm willing to bet it was a factor.

Meh, I doubt it. But I'll end this pointless argument by simply saying you are right.

Good deal for Bob and a fair deal for Columbus as well. They finally look like they have some decent pieces together.

Flyers are better off having traded Bobrovsky

I stumbled upon this article titled "Flyers are better off having traded Bobrovsky" written by Tim Panaccio, posted a month ago (June 17)

http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-phil...aded-bobrovsky

Quote:
Which brings us to the Sergei Bobrovsky debacle, as some people see it.

This weekend, the Russian goalie won the Vezina Trophy with the Columbus Blue Jackets, as the league's best goalie. His season was outstanding: 21 wins, a 2.00 goals-against average and .932 save percentage on a team that, like the Flyers, didn’t make the playoffs.

NHL general managers pick the Vezina –- not the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

“I didn’t know a lot about Sergei before we acquired him,” Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards told the Columbus Dispatch. “But after the trade was out at the draft, [Flyers coach] Peter Laviolette tapped me on the shoulder and wanted to talk.

“He just went on about Sergei Bobrovsky: ‘You’re going to love this guy. He competes. He works. He’ll help drive your team. He’s a great kid.’ That got me excited, and he was absolutely right on all of it.”

Anyone who watched the Flyers when Bob was playing behind Ilya Bryzgalov knows that he simply wasn’t a good fit as Bryz’s backup.
I'm curios how many Flyers fans agree or disagree with Tim.

I don't even have to read it to know I don't agree with Tim. Panotch is dumb.

Tim P. is a complete moron. I doubt any fan on here agrees with this article or 99% of the garbage he writes. I stopped reading anything from him years ago.

Yea, I try and avoid reading anything Tim writes....

On the other hand Bill M is one of my favorite writers.

This coming from the same guy that never had a bad thing to say about Bryz. He loved Bryz and wanted him to stay cause he was a goldmine when interviewing him. Tim is a complete dbag.

Tim Panaccio having a job at CSN makes me feel better about my future job prospects as a journalist.

he's about physically incapable of saying anything negative about the team.

I don't really think it was wrong of the Flyers to trade Bobrovsky given the circumstances at the time but it's stupid to think we couldn't use him now.

The Oilers were smart to trade Wayne Gretzky

I think that BOB is probably better off that he was traded . I think that his going to Columbus which is a much more less media hectic place was excellent for him. His playing in a " underdog" situation was much less stressful and it allowed him a little more space to grow and mature as an NHL goal tender......He did well and I am happy for the lad.....Love to get him back one day !

Tim Panaccio also called Ryan Whitney a young, top pairing defenseman..

Let me guess, did he suggest a possible Couturier for Whitney trade?

I agree. The article title should have been "Flyers writers are better off having traded Bobrovsky". Why keep a kid who can hardly speak to you and provides solid goaltending when you can chat it up with a space cadet and continue to stir controversy?

He loves Bryz because of his insane comments and he loves Pronger even though Pronger makes him look like a fool. Just a strange guy who thinks he's more important than he actually is. How he is still employed is beyond me.

The Flyers ****ed up with Bob the moment he came into training camp and had to deal with competition like Brian Boucher and Michael Leighton for the starting position.

Timmy is a dolt. He knows nothing about hockey

I'll be interested to see how Bob plays this season in the East for the full 60+ games he will get.

I really don't see what's wrong with what Panaccio wrote. In fact, I agree with him here. After Bob got lit up in the Buffalo series, how many of you would have been comfortable with him being the starter the next season? Holmgren/Snider wanted a goalie they could rely on, so they got Bryz (which obviously didn't work out). Bob looked pretty bad as a back up and I think the Flyers did a favor to Bob in trading him; he wan't going to get a shot here once they signed Bryz.

Disclaimer: I disagree with 99% of everything Tim P. writes.

First post after being here for 3 years.
