Good value now. Downie adds size and toughness to the bottom 6. Still not sure if we'd trade Smid. He's a heart and soul type player.

Original offer the Avs are giving up too little. In the second, too much.

Wow that proposal was bad. Smid is good, but he isn't that good

No thanks, overpayment for a good #3. Rather suffer through what we have or try to find a cheaper deal for a lesser guy elsewhere. The Gleason/Pitkanen thread as a prime example.

Col: Statsny, downie

Edm: Hemsky, N. schultz, 1st next year (conditional on Statsny re signing if not becomes '14 3rd or 15' 2nd)

or Edm: Hemsky, Smid, 3rd round pick.

Brutal.

Smid is good and he would be an upgrade for the Avs awful defense but he's not that good. He's a second pairing defenseman and the Avs would be giving up way too much in this particular deal.

As for the proposal posted above, no one wants Hemsky. You had your chance when his value was high but that opportunity is gone now. Avs might be in a similar situation with Stastny and his trade value but I'd still much rather have him than Hemsky.

Not a chance it'll be top 5 next year.

Lol that is an awful proposal. I wouldn't trade Stastny alone for Hemsky, Schultz and a conditional 1st, nor would I do it for the 2nd proposal of Hemsky, Smid, and a 3rd round pick, and you include Downie in the proposal? Lol no chance

the 'J' is the key above the 'N', Avs would probably be willing to add a piece to that

I'd love to have McGinn and Downie on our third line as well, and we do.

I'm sure, luckily, we have both of them on our 3rd line already

Oilers aren't trading their best defenseman.

The revised proposal is fine value wise, actually overpayment, but we simply aren't moving Smid. The guy just signed a team friendly deal because he loves the city. Heart and soul guy who leaves everything on the ice and is one of the most important guys off the ice, both in the locker room and the community. We simply can't afford to trade this guy.

Hell no. Smid is way too valuable to give up for that package.

Nick Schultz is precisely the type of responsible stay-at-home defender the Avs need, IMO. I wouldn't toss out that last proposal so quickly, though it probably needs some tweaking.

That's way too much for Smid.
