I love Palmieri. There's going to be a decent amount of turnover on our blue line. Harrington and Dumoulin pushing for spots soon. Orpik a UFA next summer. Martin the year after. If we re-sign Martin then I'd at least consider it.

If we can afford to move him, I can't think of a better deal. Both guys are future studs at their respective positions. Just lack the consistency and ice time.

I expect some phone calls between our two teams in the near future regardless.

Could somebody edit Penner eating pancakes on this gif ? Like Olli Jokinen cookie-style.

Not a bad signing I guess. Think he's good for 20 goals this year for them.

Yes! I hope they resurrect the PPG-line.

Perry-Penner-Getzlaf was among the best lines in the league when they were together and one of my personal favorite lines of all time.

Can Palmieri play center well? Would Del Zotto interest you, if you're going to move a forward for a defenseman?

Fun line to watch during the Ducks SC run

Why would Ducks fans be unhappy with this deal? It's cheap and only for one year. This signing brings nothing but upside.

in the 117 games penner played in LA he put up 11g and 15a. sorry but thats not nothing but upside. he may be able to put up more numbers in ana, as BB is a good offensive coach. that being said Darryl Sutter could barely get him to back check, i seriously doubt BB can get him more defensively and even emotionally engaged as DS was able to. he'll float more but might score more as well. this is not a nothing but upside signing.

He doesn't player centre, but MDZ would be of interest I'd imagine.

****ing idiotic. Pathetic.
I don't see why fans should be upset about it. If the Ducks are out of the playoffs around deadline time they easily flip Penner for a 2nd like he was a pancake.

I've never seen him play center. Only way we get a defenseman is if 1 (or 2) is moved out. Like MDZ though.

Cheap no risk on a 1 year deal.

Frattin was not brought in to replace Penner since they play on opposite wings but they might play together on the same line.

20 goals? You counting goals scored in practice?

and before going to the kings, he was a legitimate top 6 forward every year of his career, perhaps it was just a bad fit.

Inconsistently.

I don't think it really has to do with the quality of coaching at this point. I like Penner, he seems like nice guy, but he is what he is. A guy with a lot of god given talent that unfortunately chooses not to use it on a fairly regular basis.

We're not paying him for what he did last year, we're paying him for what he'll do this year. I'm willing to bet he'll score at least 15 goals. Probably closer to 20. If he does, this contract is a steal.

Personally, I'm not all that optimistic about this signing. I just think the contract is reasonable enough that it's a low risk signing for Anaheim. If he can pull it together it looks like a great contract. If he doesn't, he'll probably spend most of the year in the press box. He shouldn't make or break our top six or top nine. It's possible he makes it a bit better(again, if he can pull himself together), but he shouldn't make it worse.

Certainly, given your cap space, I definitely agree. And it works out great for him. I can't hate the guy personally as he's so damn likable off the ice, but as a player, he stinks.

No argument from me. He still has a pretty intriguing skillset, combined with his size, but when is he going to learn that hard work isn't a part-time thing in the NHL? I know how Carlyle would have handled him, but I'm a little curious to see what Boudreau does.
