We won't even know if he wants to stay, or, indeed, if we WANT him to stay until at least a year has passed. Everyone is so worried about the assets that we gave up that we're overanalyzing every little thing Ryan says for tiny indications that he might or might not resign. We need to calm down.
Analyzing what he said here with respect to his signing an extension is fruitless. He's barely met the organization as it is, it's his first day in Ottawa, and he won't even know how he feels himself for several months. What he said today is essentially that he's more than willing to give the organization a chance to keep him, and he's going to do his best for the team while he's here. Let's let him get his bearings and see him score some goals before we crucify or canonize him or Bryan for the move.
Just take a few deep breaths, enjoy the year, no matter how we do, and let's look back in a year, and see what we think based on first-hand experience.
Except that he lives in Idaho in the off season, which has a much closer climate to Ottawa than Cali.
Also, he's a small town guy. He probably hated Cali.
I thought he said he lived in Wyoming.
I heard a couple of interviews this morning, in one of them when asked about the pressure of playing in a hockey mad city, he said he is a streaky scorer and expects there might be some complaints when he hits a dry patch.
Handled himself very well I thought especially considering that it seems Giroux took him on a tour of the Market last night.
If your dad tried to kill your mom you might not want to carry your dad's name around with you for the rest of your life either.
Maybe but it seems he has a decent relationship with his father . I've seen people keep their last names with there parents doing worse and i've seen people change there last names with there parents doing less . Its impossible to know unless hes said it or you are him. A brave guy none the less.
I can't believe how quickly Ryan is becoming one of my favourite players. Hes going to resign here, I really don't doubt it.
He actually sounds more Canadian to me than most american players I've heard in interveiws. I think he'll not only blend in, but embrace the friendly nature of the city and Canadians in general. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, and imo, everything hes said so far is a positive sign in regards to our chances of resigning him. We gave up a lot of our future to get him here, and he wants to reward us for it.
while Bobby has said all the right things, after the way alfie left (like people have mentioned previously) majority of the fanbase will remain worried until we have an extension done with him. personally i see us being able to complete an extension with him but at the same time i can see why a lot of people are worried
