Yea interesting list. I agree overall except I thought Dallas and Edmonton were ranked a little too high. But overall good list. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, no way in hell anyone can make a list that more than maybe two people will agree on. This must be very hard to do. It's veryyy subjective people, don't get your knickers in a twist.

I like the list.

Boston #1
New Jersey #29

Ryder chose Jersey. hmmmm

the author also lists alot of reasons against NJ that ar the same as for NY. he doesnt seem to realist the players live in some of the most affluent suburbs of the entire NY/NJ area

the peice seems way too opinionated and therefore I care 0% about what it says

What a stupid list.

For some people, Toronto would be #1. For others, it would be last.
For some people, Florida would be #1. For others, it would be last.

This guys a moron.

I would choose to be a first line RW over a third line RW too. Think Bruins were happier with Iginla over Ryder too. So I wouldn't necessarily say that he chose Jersey over Bruins. You have no clue if the Bruins were even in it at the end. I believe they just showed initial interest then backed off when they thought they got Iginla.

I don't know how you can really do this either so since it's been pointed out that this is completely subjective. I think on a general standpoint you can get why he chose the order he did but at the end, it's completely subjective.

let's see some of your guy's lists. My list would be terribad because I haven't been to 90% of the cities and I'd be biased towards Edmonton and Western Canada in general

Did you bother to read the article? He clearly stated that everyone is different, and there are many personal reasons which influence life decisions. Obviously something like this is incredibly subjective. Calling him a moron is just childish.

How about this poll of 318 players from 2012?

Quote:
What team would you most like to play on?

Chicago Blackhawks 14%
Detroit Red Wings 13%
Boston Bruins 11%
Toronto Maple Leafs 8%
Montreal Canadiens 6%
Tampa Bay Lightning 5%
(The Rangers were tied for seventh with San Jose and Vancouver.)
I guess that defeats the purpose of Bourne saying where he'd want to be, but it's perhaps a bit more accurate look at what players actually think.

Even trying to rank something this subjective is incredibly stupid.

#1 - Where I live.
#2-30 - Where you live.

This will end well, I can tell already.

Rather than just making a list of the teams the author thinks players would like to sign based on his own perceptions, he should actually do some analysis of where free agents sign. For example, Toronto and Montreal may be high on the writer's list as they have a rich history in the NHL, but the reality is that very few top name free agents sign there.

No not really. I'd take about 20 other places in the NHL before Buffalo. Especially those 2 in Florida, I love the heat

There are way too many variables (expected playing role, family decisions, money, term, ntc's, etc) that go into every individual players decision to rank the desirability like this.

I think I would dig Canadian Markets with all the passion for hockey, but I could see how that could be tough at times. I grew up in Tampa/Nashville so i'm good there and in the South (Dallas, Washington, Carolina, etc) in general. Love Colorado, Cali would be OK.

I'd probably stay away from the megalopolis's of the Northeast - love to visit and do so often, but I don't think i'd like living there. Midwest markets probably won't work for me.

Of all the factors that go into this, most of them are tailored to the individual, so I'm not too sure one person can actually rank these things.

Depends on the UFA. Calgary would have an easier time attracting someone like a Schultz because they can give those kinds of players immediate NHL opportunities - just like Edmonton could.

For established UFAs Calgary would not be a desirable destination - although frankly I doubt the Flames are really looking for established UFAs at the moment.
