McD
Nash
Stepan

I think those 3 are interchangable for me. After that, it gets a little murky.

Callahan
Staal
MDZ
Girardi

are all good options for the "second tier" imo.

Agree. I think McDonagh will be a top 7 defenseman in this league within 2 years. The kid has skating ability that most can't even dream of, hockey sense that cannot be learned by even those with the hardest work ethic, flashes of offensive brilliance and, an overall game that gives you confidence in your team even when the Crosbys & Ovechkins are on the ice.

Nash it's not even close really, he's by far the best player we have after Hank. Some of you are putting wayyyy too much stock into last seasons numbers.

You forgot the guy who keeps offensive superstars neutralized for sometimes 30+ minutes a night. Nash is a fine choice but it is close.

Isn't safe to say Henke, Nash, McDonagh, then fight about the rest afterwards? I'd imagine Stepan/Callahan would be a closer runoff for the 4 & 5 spots before the races really get interesting.

Nash v McD was a coin flip for me.

5 for Del Zotto. Legalize discretionary euthanasia!

lol, ok, who voted fore Powe?

EEDIT: Sorry 5 for Callahan, which makes sense as I know how we overrate him here.

ugh. looking at this lineup makes me queezy.

we really need a few goal scorers. after nash there just isnt much there....

and with having only mdz as our best pmd, im more than a little concerned.

I think Mcdonagh is higher ranked at his position than Nash at his. Just my take on it.

Are these rankings based on talent/ability or importance to team?

I agree with Fitzy that McD is better at his position than Nash is. But an argument can be made that Nash may be more important since he is going to be heavily relied upon to score goals and is the only player on the team who has scored at least 30 goals in a season.

Yeah not entirely clear on that either.

I'm sure, for example, that of the players on the Rangers McDonagh would carry by far the largest return in a trade. A top 10 shutdown defenseman on a good deal with room to improve vs Nash, who is a 30-35-65 guy nearing 30 on a big deal, and everyone knows what he is and will continue to be.

But then, without Nash we are possibly worse off than without McDonagh, depending on Staal's health.

-Stepan

in that Order. If Stepan plays how he did last season over 82 games, he will jump over Nash and McD.

Yea, I just happen to think he'll continue that play. Also, Nash had 59PTS in 82GP the year before, he has to continue his play also.

Nash then Callahan. Stepan has to do it again before I put him ahead of those two guys.

pretty much my thinking. if we lost mcd, we have other good defensemen. if we lost Nash, we're not scoring goals.

Rick Nash is the winner of round 1. If the mods could please lock, I will get round 2 up.

And scored no less than 66 points the 4 seasons preceeding that one. A lot is riding on Nash having a very good season.
