Rank the Rangers #2

Rick Nash is the winner of round 1 with exactly 50% of the votes cast.

Criteria

The general idea for the poll was to rank the players based on who everyone thinks is most valuable. Take into account overall play and not necessarily point totals, although they do help. Ignore the contract if that's at all possible. It's more like looking at the players in a vacuum if you ignore contracts.

#0 -- Henrik Lundqvist
#1 -- Rick Nash - 50%
#2 -- ???

Going with Stepan again. Without him, our center depth is putrid. We can get by without McD.

McDonagh, more proven than Stepan (in terms of playing at a high level).

Callahan. Step had a great half a year but that's not enough to overtake Callahan. McDonagh was a little inconsistent last year and when Staal was healthy he looked like the best defender on the ice. Callahan always plays hard, finishes every check, and his ability to score goals is underrated.

Callahan shouldn't be getting any votes until after Staal/McD/Stepan/Nash are on the board. I love Callahan, but if he's the 2nd best skater on this team (according to HF), he's either A) extremely overrated or B) the Rangers roster is pathetic. I'd say it's the former.

I like our defenseman but they're all pretty one-dimensional. They're a great group but no one really stands out. Stepan just hasn't done it long enough. Callahan can realistically score 30 goals and he plays defense, hits everything that moves, blocks shots, kills penalties, etc.

If McDonagh or Staal developed a real offensive game I'd put them ahead of Callahan.

McDonagh, not really close. Then Stepan by quite a margin. Then Staal. Then a tie between Girardi, Richards (like it or not, he still put up 34 points) and Callahan.

Guess you've already forgotten just how good ALL STAR MARC STAAL was before he was banged up the last two seasons. You clearly must have if you actually think it's not even close.

What about ALL STAR DAN GIRARDI?

Staal's injuries play a factor, here. McDonagh has been an ironman and our #1 D in our two most successful seasons since 2008.

Injuries aside, Staal is as good if not better than McDonagh and Girardi. When someone says McDonagh is leaps and bounds better it's simply untrue.

True, but I went with McDonagh over Staal because of the uncertainty surrounding his vision.

I wish one of the two would just become the best defenseman in the entire universe so this McD vs Staal thing can be settled

Having that said, McD

I will admit to a slight bias wanting to see the US national team do as well as possible in Sochi, but it's McDonagh. He's already ahead of Staal and should be ahead of Nash.

McDonagh might not even be the best player at his position, much less the second most important player to his team. I like Ryan a lot. I feel like this board as a whole overrates his game because of how young he is.

Girardi is the leader of the D. He had a slightly off year, but he is the most important D we have.

Shouldn't we wait and see how Staal is before saying he's better than McDonagh?
