I know our backs were against a wall this offseason with the cap, but I can't help but feel we're a worse team today than the day after the WCF loss. Realistically we're looking at this movement when it all shakes out:

OUT

Penner
Scuderi
Bernier
Clifford
Muzzin/Martinez
Hextall

IN

Frattin
Scrivens
Mitchell
Carcillo
Schultz
Regehr

Doesn't seem that good.

I just don't get the 9 d on NHL deal. Last year we went into camp with 7.

And how many got hurt over the season?

Richie10-Clifford and Muzzin/Martinez are still on the roster. We can't say they are out for sure.

Hextall? Really no reason to throw his name in there.

Scuderi was gone months ago, maybe even years ago if the whole family thing was talked about between him and them over the years. Penner wasn't taking another pay cut to stay with the Kings. Bernier had to go, because Quick is taking up $5.8 million on the cap, and he had no future with the Kings.

We know what Penner was as a King. A healthy scratch at times who might score occasionally during the regular season, but scored a couple big playoff goals. We don't know what Frattin will be as a King.

The Kings had and have little choice but to hope Mitchell can go. He couldn't be bought out if he's hurt, wouldn't get bought out if he's not hurt, and wouldn't be put on LTIR until he's certainly out, which wouldn't be known until camp starts, which doesn't help the Kings in July in terms of getting someone else.

Bernier was a luxury the Kings could no longer have, and Scrivens put up decent numbers last year. If Quick is healthy and his normal self, Bernier wouldn't have played much, and Scrivens won't play much.

The Kings didn't have Mitchell or Greene at all last year. Quick was coming off a back surgery. The Kings still finished 5th in the conference, 1 point out of 4th, and in the top 10 in the league in GA. This is what coaches are paid for. Make it work with what you've got.

Again, 2 months away from camp starting. And this year there is actual training camp where things will have a little more time to shake out.

I guess my response to this exact post you made like 2 weeks ago on the main boards wasn't enough to convince you. Oh no, we lost our backup goaltender. Oh no, we lost a regular season invisible man. We havn't lost Martinez or Muzzin so I don't even know why you put them in there, they are both under contract with the Kings. And Clifford is still apart of this organization as well at this point, so i'm not sure why you put him in with that group either. Even if he is traded, you have neglected the fact that you don't even know what the return would be.

And Hextall? Really?

The only piece we "lost" that is going to hurt a little bit would be Scuderi, but with the acquisition of Regehr and a healthy Mitchell more than makes up for it. Scuderi was leaving no matter what, not much Dean could have done to convince him otherwise.

Stop being such a downer.

LA has 22 players signed for a cap total of just over $62.15M. That leaves around $2.3M in cap space. However if LA signs Clifford, Lewis and Nolan it gives them 25 signed players. You can only carry 23 on your NHL roster. If Mitchell isn't healthy he goes on IR and Kings get more cap room. If Mitchell is healthy than it is very likely that Ellerby or Schultz is sent to Manchester. Also up front I wouldn't be shocked to see Toffoli start the season in the AHL.

If Toffoli and one of the dmen start the season in the AHL that gives LA another $1.6M in cap space.
So basically LA has a 20 man roster with around $3.9M in cap space to sign Clifford, Lewis and Nolan. So really once the arbitration cases are settled I'm sure Clifford signs a one yr deal knowing there isn't much wiggle room left under the cap. Also LA could take a hard line stance and give Clifford a take it or leave it offer knowing they have the depth to replace him and at the same time hold onto his rights until a better trade offer presents itself.

Honestly I wish Lombardi would have seen this problem earlier and maybe packaged Clifford with Bernier bringing back a 1st in the Toronto deal.

Losing Penner is addition by subtraction as far as I'm concerned. Frattin will be LIGHT YEARS hungrier than that oaf. Bernier was an unfortunate inevitability, a shame because he won some big games for us but he was going to be gone no matter what. He looked better than Quick for much of the regular season. A lot of our success is riding on Willie Mitchell coming back and EVENTUALLY returning to form. I don't expect him to be great right off the bat.

There's almost too much at stake with the whole Mitchell thing, because the talent sure drops off after that. I'm hoping at least Muzzin can come into his own, because I sure as **** don't trust Ellerby or Schultz at this point. I'm also worried about Richards' head, one or two more good shots and he's done. You can't just go out and replace guys like Richards and Mitchell like that...

If Toffoli proves to be the sniper the Kings need and Pearson blows up the A then I could see us moving JW and one dman+ for an established star ala Vanek!

We are fine. DL just needs to do a little more tweaking. Hopefully he is.

I am a new man lol. Yesterday was a life changing day for me.

Hopefully DL trims the extras or something and makes one more trade to get the roster very solid.

I suspect Schultz was signed as Lombardi was worried about problems arising with the Martinez and Muzzin contracts. Add in the uncertainty with Mitchell and so he picked up Schultz just in case. Given that both have since re-signed and there's been no bad news on Mitchell, I anticipate Schultz being waived and sent down before the season starts. Then the plan is to go with 8 D and 13 Forwards until someone gets hurt on the back-end.

Waiving him doesn't clear his salary does it?

I don't think they count against the cap if they aren't on the big club, but they still pay the full salary. Unless that was changed in the CBA.

Are we allowed to be above the cap during training camp?

I like that Carcillo can deal with pests, and especially enjoyed him pounding on Burrows.

Bieska is the worst. I love Doan, even after everything with our team. Bieska is a known spot picker and cheap shot artist. I hate him. Most fight fans do too. Fighting Patrick Marleau? Ha! Doan wouldn't do that.

Can't stand him either, but it's typical Doan. Joins late, acts like a tough guy, and puts the other player down when they're already in a compromising position.
