But we're voting now. Have to take all factors into consideration.

Why? Some of us who have been watching the team play for more than the last two years actually remember how good Staal is. But the reality is a lot of people are only interested in what happened last year. So yeah, McDonagh was a lot better than Staal last season. That hardly makes him the better player.

McDonagh is Staal's equivalent on D, but has more offensive upside. Both are all-star caliber when healthy.

It's not about any of that, it's the fact that he took a ****ing puck to the eye and has played one game since then. Maybe I'm missing something, but people seem awfully certain that he's going to completely regain his form.

I guess by that logic Brian Boyle is now a better player than Ryan Callahan? I mean Cally injured his shoulder and we don't know if he'll ever be the same player again, right?

That's a fairly ridiculous comparison to what the person posted since Staal's missed a massive amount of time the past few seasons and has himself said his eye will probably never be 100 percent. Not to mention there is a notable gap between healthy Callahan and Boyle, whereas healthy Staal and McDonagh are fairly close. But how do you even compare Callahan's situation to Staal's, when Staal has missed over half the games the past two seasons?

Wut.

The difference between Staal-McD is not remotely comparable to Boyle-Callahan. And an eye injury is totally different also. I didn't even say which player I think is better, and I'm not the only one in this thread who mentioned that Staal's injury is a factor. It's not like I don't want him to fully recovery.

Forget it, I vote Stepan.

P.S. I don't mean for any of this to sound hostile, at all, I'm just trying to understand other posters views on this.

It's not certain enough whether mcDonagh is better than Staal. Must wait until Staal comes back and plays 20 games before moving onto #3

The easy choice is McDonagh, and case could be made for Stepan as well based on talent alone.

I chose Girardi because without him our right side would be the laughing stock of the league and would render all the talent we have on the left a moot point.

If Cally is the glue that holds our forward group together and sets the standard by which they play by, then Girardi is just as important with the D group and him being the only right D close to the same level as the guys on the left makes him the clear choice based on importance to team success. Not discounting Stralman, but I wouldn't put him in the same class of of player as our top 4, although not a scrub either.

So.....

Who voted for Asham and Falk? At least no one voted for Haley.

Clearly I was using a ridiculous example to make a point. Could Staal never return or regain his form? Sure. But I think it's silly to say that McDonah is better AIAEC, when the comparison is to a Staal that's not playing.

And there's no hostility....these polls are meaningless anyway.
