Did anyone catch the look on Chiarelli's face

at the end of the Ottawa game? The camera immediately panned over to him, seated by himself it seemed, and despite the win he looked completely pi**ed off. No smile, no nod, just a look of total frustration. If I had to guess I'd say something has already been just about completed on the trade front and it is weighing heavy on Chiarell's mind. Personally, I like that quality...he's not going to get excited over one tight win, nor does he seem the type that is going to put up with this inconsistency much longer. I just hope that he doesn't focus just on the players...I'm not at all sold on Lewis and I think we have to be willing to cut bait with him if necesarry.

Anyhow, if anyone TiVo'd the game check out the look on Chiarelli's face...priceless!!

I'm sure he was bitting his nails until the buzzer went.

I thought he looked very composed - looking through his cat's eye glasses, box of popcorn by his side. But yeah, this was an important game for him on two fronts. His new team was playing against his old team and his new team really needed to show some signs of life. I can't imagine he'd feel anything but thrilled with the effort that was put forth.

He absolutely didn't look happy. It could have been the stress of facing his former team but the guy definitely looked like he needed a drink.

Really? I saw him and thought different. I thought he looked incredibly happy but was trying to control it. He had his hand over his mouth and I thought I saw a grin out of the corner.

When the camera panned to him he just looked serious to me. I thought that was a good sign that he wasn't all jumping up and down since the team is still so low in the standings.

It does sound like he cheered a few minutes later anyway. From today's Herald:

Quote:
Maybe that’s why general manager Peter Chiarelli was beaming as he headed into the locker room after the game. It may have been the first time he’s smiled all year.
And that was written by Karen G., who doesn't always write the most optimistic articles I've seen.

I tivo'd it. He looked really serious the whole time and he was taking tiny sips out of his coffee and he had his box of pop corn sitting next to him (i wonder if he had to pay for that pop corn or if his servents brought it to him)

Good catch. I remember seeing him put the cup to his lips so quicly and I thought "what is he, trying to make it look like he's drinking?"

But yeah. It was the dip.

And I thought he was smiling at the end. But we've already established that I didn't pick up as much as others did.

I saw it on the replay of the game and I think he smirked. Was pretty serious looking.

I thought the same thing. Who want's to be a unprofessional GM by jumping up and down when your new team beats your old one? I think he respects Ottawa too much for that...

I think he probably held it in until he got to the room. That was the right time to smile. The team persevered and won a game that was important to establish themselves at home, was important because they did not play soft, was important to Chia and Chara, and was important to Tim Thomas and to Dave Lewis.

Funny, Emery did not play that well vs Boston last season, so Gerber probably got the start for that reason, but Gerber has been getting crummy goal support (to steal a baseball term, run support) and is 2-4 while playing pretty well.

As for the grimace, maybe this team has driven him to dip, and he is not really so crazy about the taste.

He was probably bummed out because the Garden had a LOT of empty seats for a big game with an entertaining opponent on a Saturday night. That is a lot of $$ off the top line. BTW, I was disappointed with the lackluster fan turnout too, though the people that were there saw a fun game and had a good time.

Beyond that, I don't know how much you can try to read into his expression.

He certainly didn't look like a happy camper. I thought to myself that's some poker face...win or lose it doesn't change.

He may have actually been holding back laughter at the people who did shell out hard-earned cash to see a team who sits in last place in their division.
