Readup on Raffl:

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?p...9#.UeFmdW3LKc1

I pretty much agree with this. Raffl IS NOT a top 6 forward. He is a bottom 6. hoping Lavy puts him a position to succeed, not what Stevens did with Pyorala. I think Raffl can be a very good 3rd line winger. Plays smart defensive hockey and has alittle more offensive upside.

It is a shame. People had HUGE expectations for Pyorala which was overblown due to Stevens playing him in a spot where he wouldnt suceed. Raffl can play on the PK and 3rd line winger while bringing defensive play and some scoring.

In the end, still hoping Straka wins that other spot.

It looks like Fredric Larsson is coming over to play in the USHL this year.

Good stuff! He always sounded like he wanted to play over here. Nice!

He will be the fourth prospect in the USHL next season, the others are Drake, Madsen (both Des Moines Buccaneers) and Amorosa (Sioux City Musketeers).

The USHL is becoming a very good league in terms of developing talent. I know that the NCAA and Major Junior are still the tops, but the USHL is really becoming a fantastic league for talent who might need a little longer to develop than what Major Junior offers, but are too young to still get into the NCAA.

Flyers Top 10 Prospects: #10 Jason Akeson
Quote:
Coming in at number 10 is Jason Akeson. Akeson is somewhat of a curious case, as he started the season in the ECHL and ended it in the NHL. After leading the Phantoms in scoring during the 2011-2012 season, Akeson probably felt blindsided when he was demoted to play for the Trenton Titans of the ECHL at the start of the next year.

There are clear as day reasons to why he started the year in the E. He's gotta be getting close to not being considered a prospect anymore.

He played in the final game last season which is a little encouraging, but yeah this is pretty much the last chance he has to prove himself.

Phantoms resigned Zach Fitzgerald. I guess they wanted the locker room presence and a mentor for Mathers. I think he was well liked and knows his place.

I ventured over to the QMJHL board to get a sense of what they think of Morin. A lot of them feel as if Sam's team Rimouski is the favorite to win the Q this year & a lot of them think highly of Sam. Most of them have him penciled in on Rimouski's top defensive pairing & are predicting him to get 30+ points.

The forward line-up should be something like:

McGinn-Flanagan-Akeson
Raffl-Cousins-Straka
Alderson-Newberry-Noebels
Roe-Holmstrom-Mathers

I really don't know where Fitzgerald, Johnston, Brown, Mangene and Wellwood (when he gets back from his achilles injury) fit in. I would guess at the very least Mangene, Brown and Johnston are ECHL bound and Fitzgerald is used as the 13th forward/7th defenseman.

Newberry is good pt producer at the AHL level so I wouldn't be surprised if he's even the #2 or #1 C.

D-core:
Lauridsen-Alt
Lamarche-Manning (though I don't think he's been re-signed yet)
Konan-Eddy

Similarly Hostetter is likely going back to the ECHL. If Mez isn't moved it also seems likely that Gervais will be assigned to ADK meaning someone else is moved (traded, designated to ECHL or simply isn't re-signed, like Manning).

Goalies:
Danis
Heeter

Honestly unless everyone falls on their faces in camp or Laughton shows he's not ready (which I think is unlikely) Gagne may not be re-signed. It's gonna be really crowded in ADK this year and with the addition of some guys/full yrs from others they have the potential to be a playoff team for the first time since 08-09 season when they were still the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Yes I did. He was skating so he should be ready unless theres a set back. He'll most definitely have a spot in the AHL.

Garret Roe has signed a contract with Salzburg to play in the EBEL next year. he won't be a Phantom next season.

Should've checked capgeek, to see who's under contract, before posting. I'm a little surprised though to be honest that he didn't stay in the AHL. The Flyers org may very well have told him they weren't gonna bring him back and for good reason being as though he's 25 and there simply isn't much room in ADK but he put up decent numbers the past two years, scoring at a 0.51 ppg, so I imagine he had other AHL options. Though he'll probably play a bigger role on an Austrian team so that may have factored into his decision.

Those D-Corps may get a little crowded after this year if Hagg & Gostisbehere make the jump next summer but that's a good problem to have.

Ghost already stated hes finishing school so he won't be in ADK next year either. I thought I read somewhere Hagg has a 2 year deal in the league hes in? Maybe I'm wrong.

Sure would be. Though I imagine Hagg will still be with MODO and Ghost with Union. Just a feeling.

Ghost said if the Flyers offered him a contract he'd be tempted but he made a 4 yr commitment to Union, that doesn't mean things change but I'm leaning toward him staying in college myself. Hagg as far as I know doesn't have a two yr contract and in his interview he said he still thinks he needs a yr or two, I don't think he'd say that if he had already committed to a two yr contract. So again it's possible, I just think it's unlikely.

I'm aware of what he said but if he has another good year this upcoming season things may change. His advisor(s) & the Flyers may push him to leave college & sign a pro deal.

Hagg said he wants to spend at least this year in Sweden & then revaluate things after the year with his agent & the Flyers on where he'll play the following year.
