NHL.com:

Quote:
The timing for when the National Hockey League releases the 2013-14 regular-season schedule is dependent on an agreement that is currently being worked on to send NHL players to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Thursday that the schedule will not be released until the agreement between the NHL, National Hockey League Players' Association, International Olympic Committee and International Ice Hockey Federation is completed.

"There has been no final agreement on the terms of Olympic participation at this point," Daly told NHL.com. "And unless, or until, there is, the release of the 2013-14 regular-season schedule would be premature. Having said that, we hope that a final resolution on both matters can be achieved in the very near future."

Denmark didn't qualify.

Add Raffl for Austria and Meszaros for Slovakia.

For sure, if I was just going by starters then I'd give Canada and Sweden props as well. But in terms of depth, USA and Finland are insane.

Sweden's defense is sure going to get overlooked, and may easily end up with the best defensive corp in the tournament. That mixed with the King and a veteran group of forwards? It SHOULD come down to USA, Canada, Russia, and Sweden.

USA probably has the best goaltending outside of Finland. I'd go Quick, Miller, Howard/Schneider. Pretty good group when Howard/Schneider, Thomas, and Gibson get left off.

I hope we see a 3rd/4th line of Brown - Backes - Callahan. Even Ray Lewis wouldn't enjoy playing against that line.
Pavelski
Kesler
Stepan
Oshie

is a very solid group of 4 centers. Maybe not the best playmakers but great 2-way-play. USA will be extremly difficult to play against.

Gustafsson and Grossmann will also be competing for an outside shot at Sweden.

Errr, speaking of meanigless signs, Jagr changed his twitter background to Flyers about an hour ago. Holmgren trades everyone to make cap space for him

Oshie is a winger. He's also probably on the bubble right now for a spot.

The NHL has to be the slowest moving entity in the world. This seriously takes weeks to finalize this deal with the IOC? This deal was "close" in early July, its the 19th now.

This is weird. Especially since he said he'd make a decision soon.

You have to go through your division to make the Conference Final, so the top seeds don't really factor unless they meet in the Conference Final.

A quick potential example of the East this year:

Metropolitan Division:

1) Pens - 105
2) Flyers - 97
3) Rangers - 95

4) Isles - 94
5) Caps - 93

6) Jackets - 86
7) Canes - 75
8) Devils - 70

Atlantic Division:

1) Bruins - 108
2) Wings - 99
3) Sens - 92

4) Leafs - 91
5) Habs - 88
6) Bolts - 87
7) Panthers - 80
8) Sabres - 74

The top 3 teams in each division automatically make the playoffs. The next two highest point totals also make the playoffs, in this case the Isles and Caps. The highest seed in the conference (here, Boston) would play the lowest wildcard (Caps) and the other division winner (Pens) would play the other wildcard.

So the first round playoff matches would be:

Pens vs Isles & Flyers vs Rangers (winners play each other)

Bruins vs Caps & Wings vs Sens (winners play each other)
