Even with Horton Columbus doesn't scare me too much. Everyone seems to love the Islanders but honestly outside Tavares who really scares you on that team? And other people give the Flyers crap for their goaltending when the Isles are just throwing Nabakov out there again? Really?

Agreed. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by how much the shortened season skewed the perspectives on teams. The Islanders just don't have the personnel to sustain success for an entire 82 game season.

How did we get into a schedule alignment where the Penguins only come to Philadelphia twice?

I don't mean to imply that I think the Islanders are perennial PO contenders or anything; that team still has a lot of weaknesses. I just think they're more dangerous than the BJs. That's not saying a whole lot.

WTF is this league doing! Seriously, the Metropolitan Division? Sounds like a style of Pizza or something. DUMB!

This league really is laughable sometimes.....never any continuity. I don't think any of the major sports change things up as much as the NHL whether with rules, alignments etc. It's almost childish...

I definitely don't like the whole playoff seeding deal.....

I'm fine with the alignment just not the schedule. Want more games in the division, I don't care about seeing Edmonton every year

Metropolitan division?

Columbus and Carolina aren't even close to our "metropolitan area".

Carolina is a LONG ASS drive. Never again.

Why is god's name are we the Metropolitan Division? That's brutal. The Atlantic makes perfect sense for us. Worst division name ever.

Also, why the hell are there two extra teams in our conference. It doesn't take a scientist to realize it's easier to be top 8 out of 14 than top 8 out of 16.

Metropolitan division? That just rolls off the tongue.

EDIT: They must have named it after Glen Metropolit...

EDIT 2: Can we just go back to Division D?

Really a cornball name, I wonder what the reasoning was behind it? You would think that all the so called brains in marketing could have come up with something better than that. Oh well cannot wait for the dog days of summer to pass.

The Boston-Washington metropolitian corridor is one of the largest megalopolises in the world. I'm sure that's where the came comes from, since 6 of the teams are directly in that corridor and 2 more are pretty close.

Here's what the NHL should do, but I know it will never happen due to taking away some key rivalries, and the cost of more flights for Eastern Teams:

No Distinct Conferences, just 4 divisions:

Eastern: Boston, Montreal, New Jersey, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Ottawa, Philadelphia
Great Lakes: Buffalo, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Winnipeg
Southern: Carolina, Dallas, Florida, Nashville, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Washington
Western: Anaheim, Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver

They figure out a system where about 33% of the games are played in the division and the rest are played against the other divisions equally (ie: 28 games played in the division, 18 games played against each of the other divisions). Every team will visit each NHL arena at least once.

Playoffs: The top two teams from each division make the playoffs. The next 8 teams in the league with the highest point totals get the final 8 spots. Teams are seeded 1-16 based on points.

There you go, no more ****** division names and *****ing. Though I suppose a lot of people would be up in arms about splitting up some of those rivalries. Key point is, you can't make everyone happy, no matter how it's done.

Exactly, the name is apt. I don't understand the people bellyaching over the name not making sense. It makes perfect sense.

Tavares usually does a disappearing act when we play them unlike when they play the Rangers & Pens.

The official explanation I heard on the radio is "3 of the teams are in the NYC area."

I can buy the megalopolis explanation, but that's not the one I've heard offered.

I really don't care about the name either way. I'm sure if people ***** enough they'll change it after the year.

The B1G Conference in the NCAA named their divisions the Leaders & Legends Divisions, after year of people complaining & making fun of it they went to a simple East & West Divisions.

Idk, half their team is NYR castoffs that used to always kill us. Anisimov, Dubinsky Gaborik. Then theres Umberger, Horton, J. Johnson, Wisniewski, and Tyutin. They should have a pretty good squad.

Oh yeah I agree, I was just adding to your point about the Flyers making it over the Isles in a full season.

Actually...

Why aren't we naming the divisions after legends of the game?

I wouldn't mind that, my guess would be the Gretzky, Orr, Lemueix, & Howe Divisions.

Pacific Division = Gretzky Division
Central Division = Howe Division
Metro Division = Lemeuix Division
Atlantic Division = Orr Division

They could also go back to the Patrick, Adams, Smythe, & Norris Divisions.

Metro Division = Patrick Division
Atlantic Division = Adams Division
Pacific Division = Smythe Division
Central Division = Norris Division

I was thinking more Clarke division instead of Lemeuix cause **** 'em, but all in all, not bad right?

We should have really done this instead of the crap names involved now.

Yup, they could have just kept our division as the Atlantic and named the other division as the Eastern Division. That's three other alternatives that are better than what we have.

Florida & Tampa Bay really F'd this up.
