''@LesBowen You have to admire Carlos Ruiz' steadfast refusal to take part in the Phils' slaughter of the Mets...''

Aside from the fact that he is wrong (Chooch had an rbi double) only the Philly media would try and put a negative spin on a 13-3 lead.

Not a bad start to the second half of the season (yes i know it's past the halfway point).

Pitching kind of stinks, though

Over .500 was nice while it lasted.

I'll never understand why they gave Brown the green light on a 3-0 pitch with a chance to load the bases with one out. Makes no sense.

That was one time where I was okay with the green light. Ruf struck out in his first two ABs and didn't look very good either time. Brown got a pitch right down the middle on 3-0 and just missed it.

Another quality start Clifton, you know you are supposed to keep the ball in the park. When they hit out against you it is not good.

Harvey in unreal. He threw a 93 mph slider to Kratz that just disappeared. If this guy can maintain his velocity for a few more years, he will be a nightmare to face. The only problem with guys like Harvey that have early success in their careers is their stuff is so overpowering that they simply overmatch guys and don't really learn how to pitch. We've seen it with guys like Lincecum, Joba Chamberlain (remember him?), and Ubaldo Jimenez. They lose a couple mphs off the fastball and suddenly they are human again. He's got 3 nasty pitches, but you'd be surprised how much more hittable a pitcher can be losing 3 ticks off the fastball.

I've been saying it all year, this is a flawed team. They have no business buying at the deadline. I've never seen a team go down so easy at the dish. It's one thing if you're struggling to scrap together some hits, but at least grind some at bats. There's so many easy outs on this team. I'm not a Rollins hater by any means, I defend the guy more than most, and he's still one of the best SS's in the league believe it or not, but he had a 30 second at bat today. Saw 3 pitches swung at them all, no where near making contact, and let Harvey quick pitch him. Didn't bother to call time and break his rhythm. Don't get me started on the defense.

Lee and Hamels really let them down the last two games. Yeah, the offense sucks but you cannot come out in the 1st inning of both games and put your team down like that. You face a guy like Harvey and you barely blink and you're down by two, that just kills a team.

Harvey was unhittable today, I'm surprised we got the hits we did. But you don't even have a chance when your two aces come out and give 5 runs each. They need to be a whole lot better. Two things that I think are unforgivable when it comes to pitching, 1st inning runs and blowing a shutdown inning. I feel like you lose so much momentum when that happens and you spend another few innings trying to get it back again.

Garza traded to the Rangers with Olt going back to Chicago in a package.
Suddenly Braun suspension.

If Garza got Olt than Amaro needs to move Lee. With the money the team has they can rebuild quickly if they acquire the right young talent.

He should move Utley too, especially considering that he plays a position where nobody hits and he has an OPS of .860. He should be able to get great return for him.

Olt's value has been tanking this year.

I believe you were the one high on Olt last year. I, personally think he got a little overrated (I said this last year too). He was an older prospect (for AA) with a good eye and good pop, but struck out at a high rate. Decent fielder, but if he has to move to another position his value takes a hit. Looking beyond the numbers, I just don't like the swing. Just doesn't look natural.

To put it lightly. Still walking a lot, but a 33% k-rate and a .207 average over 264 PAs.

I'm not sure if that was me or not, I just knew the Rangers were high on him, and that he was one of the top ranked prospects in baseball. If you look at his numbers he's never hit for average but has a high OBP because of his walks. He's always had a high BABIP, and that has dropped a lot this year bringing his average way down. So either it was inflated before or he's been unlucky this year, or maybe a combo of both.

This to me looks like a similar scenario as when people had given up on Brown and wanted him moved. I think they sold low on him.

Garza for Olt would be like Lee for Stanton now.
