BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 19, 2013) --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the Sabres have re-signed restricted free agents Brian Flynn and Nick Crawford.

The Sabres have signed Flynn (6'1", 180 lbs., 7/26/88) to a two-year contract after the forward made his National Hockey League debut with the Sabres in the 2012-13 season, recording 11 points (6+5) in 26 games. In addition to his time in Buffalo, the Lynnfield, Mass. native has appeared in 50 games for the Rochester Americans (AHL) in the last two seasons, totaling 33 points (16+17) and 20 penalty minutes.

Flynn, a University of Maine alumnus, originally signed with the Sabres in March of 2012.

Crawford (6’1”, 192 lbs., 2/23/90) has been signed to a one-year contract after spending three years with the Sabres’ AHL affiliates, tallying 72 points (18+54) and 71 penalty minutes in 199 games with Rochester and the Portland Pirates. Last season, he recorded 19 points (5+14) and 18 penalty minutes in 53 games on the Rochester blue line.

A native of Caledon, Ontario, Crawford was selected by Buffalo in the sixth round (164th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Good to hear. I wonder if Flynn's is a one- or two-way deal.

Curious about whether Flynn's deal is one-way or two-way. In any case, his success in the NHL was a pleasant surprise (since I never expect college FAs to amount to much). Glad to have him back.

Got to love it when a kid bypasses the prospect ticker tape at the top, and make the big league club out of nowhere.

Could be both. Regier has liked the 2-way 1st year, 1-way 2nd year deals in the last couple years (Ellis, Porter).

If I understand this correctly:

10.1 Any Player who either has seven (7) Accrued Seasons or is 27 years of age or older as of June 30 of the end of a League Year...

As of June 30 Flynn's age is 24 this year. In 2 yrs his age will be 26 as of June 30 so he should not be a UFA.

If your birthday is before June 30 you get to be a free agent earlier than if it was after June 30.

Good signings. I would think Flynn has a two way deal... but as I've mentioned quite a few times recently, Flynn impressed me last year and I think there might be some more untapped game there.

Flynn's RFA deal being 2-year means it is at the player election, correct? Or is that election only if he agreed to the terms of the Qual Offer?

If the former, that leads me to believe:
1. He's bullish on his future with BUF / with Rolston.
2. The 2nd year is 1-way deal.

I'd have to think it's at least a two-way for this year for Flynn, maybe one-way next year. He had a really small sample size but played pretty well. Still, I don't think it warrants a one-way automatically especially from Darcy Regier. Crawford is fine for the AHL so I'm fine with these re-signings, Flynn more so. Now all we have left is Hodgson.

Many of us believe Flynn will be the third-line right wing. How do some of you think he does this season and what are your expectations? Based on his pace last season, he might be able to crack 20 goals in a full one. Of course, that production might dip as we saw with Foligno going into the second year. Personally, if we get 15 goals out of Flynn I'd be pretty happy. I think he's a lock to make the opening night roster.

Oh,how will we replace him. Scrubs. Too many on Sabres lately -- even if they do work hard.

Ehh. I'd say the chances he's on the team in 3 years is 50/50. Depends on how this prospect pool develops now that it's the deepest it has been in a long time. He's certainly replaceable.

But from an asset management perspective having him end up as RFA is still advantageous.

The fact that he's replaceable does not mean he's a scrub.

And I'd say it's pretty impractical to claim he has a 50 percent chance of being here in three years. Did you expect Flynn to have the impact he did this season? Nobody knows what will happen in '13-14 or '14-15.

Given this organization's lack of depth on the wing, there's a good chance he runs with any opportunity he's granted - just like he did with his call up.

Hmmmm... A good defensive winger who manages to generate goals despite competition, heavy d-zone starts, and meh linemates? No issue with Flynn. I wish the had more "scrubs" like him.

As predicted, Flynn's 2nd year is a 1 way deal.

Year 1: 70K AHL 625K NHL
Year 2: 650K AHL 650K NHL

Flynn will also be an RFA at the end of the deal

Sounds good to me, excited to see his continued development

Luke Adam has been signed as well, to a 1 year (2 way) deal.
