Who's our #2 Prospect?

1: Elias Lindholm - 75%

Lindholm won going away, shock.

Will be interesting to see as we go on in this how much NHL readiness or overall potential are favored. We have quite a few guys knocking on the door but maybe not with the highest upsides, and we have guys that are long term projects but could turn out to be better players.

edit: added Boychuk and Palushaj because, well, why not.

Murphy. Interesting from this week in videos to see how high Rod was on Murphy. For a guy to be written off sometimes as uninterested or even lazy, hard to think that's true if you have Rod Brind'Amour's support.

Uninterested or lazy? I missed that. Not big enough to play in his own end isn't lazy.

There are reports out there how he was "uninterested" or "over" playing in the OHL, that's what I was referring to.

Edit: http://ohlprospects.blogspot.ca/2013...urricanes.html like so

That uninterested in his own end and regression at juniors is why I dropped him to #3... Let's just hope he was bored

Murph is just another example of a kids development being stunted by being forced to play in the CHL. The rules are outdated and nonsensical considering the modern training/fitness/diet. Keeping young men playing against teens until they are 20 without any choice is foolish in terms of what is best for the players the CHL is content to keep cashing in on. Murphy would be much further along IMO had the Canes and Ryan had the ability to choose to play in Charlotte. The players needs to have the option.

Yep, I absolutely hate that rule. The CHL leagues are absolutely predatory in regards to the NCAA leagues, but yet the NHL can't assign 19 year old players to the AHL if they're coming out of a CHL league? That just screams ******** to me, and it's not good for the players development. I can maybe understand limiting it to one 19 year old player per season or something, but while it's beneficial for a lot of guys (Levi, Rask, Lowe) to play out their CHL careers in total rather then as players getting modest ice time in the A, a guy like Murphy likely would have been getting at the very worst top 4 ice time last season had he been able to play in the AHL all year.

This. I've always wondered why each team isn't allowed one underager per season.

Well, at least you got that part right.

Right now it's 84% to 16% in favor of Murphy, so you are correct, it's not even close.

He was banished to a Siberian gulag. Never to return again.

I doubt he comes back though. I don't see him making as much money here or ever having a guaranteed NHL spot so he won't have much incentive to come back.

Considering our lack of depth, I'd expect nul to be off the board by #7 or #8.

I worry about Murphy's attitude. He seems to lack an urgency in his approach to the game. Some players have such a sublime skill set that they can go out there and ho-hum their way through an NHL career, but that's not what you want to see from a guy who still has a lot of work to do on his game. I have a real bad feeling that he's going to end up being another McBain, content to play within his limitations rather than growing out of them.

Highway to Cap Hell has it right - I don't understand how anyone in their right mind can pick a disinterested, lazy smurf over a guy who has played in 3 professional leagues who just happens to have never allowed an NHL goal to be scored against him. Best save percentage in the league by a far margin. Are you guys even paying attention?

Really? Based on what?

And already McBain comparisons? So it starts...

Having seen him in person now at two camps and his stint here last season, and seeing the same thing from him each time -- and also seeing a similar observation in the OHL prospect review about a week ago.

A young offensive-minded RHD who doesn't have a physical game whatsoever is a McBain comparison regardless of his personality. I would really love to see Murphy grow beyond that niche, but I think there's a valid concern to be had about a guy who seems to coast through games at this stage of his development.

On the other hand, his position on our roster (or the Checkers') will not be decided here by beating up ECHL level talent. It will be decided in training camp and the beginning of the season. If he displays those tendencies at that time, then I will start to worry.

I didn't see any lackadaisical play from him while in the NHL, FWIW.
