He plays in the B/C league at the IcePlex, which I also play in. He's a decent B-level adult league player, but nothing more than that. I wouldn't even rank in him in the top 50 adult league players in Raleigh.

Is this league contact or non-contact? Also, is there tryouts or can you literally put on some gear, pay, and join a team? I haven't laced up in 10 years. I used to play at the Hillsborough sportplex.
I don't know any specifics about adult hockey in Raleigh, but the vast majority of adult leagues are non-contact. But that doesn't mean there's no contact at all. A lot of players will try to bump you off the puck in puck battles along the boards, there's just no open ice checking or big hits near the boards. Most leagues have sign-ups for various skill levels. Usually it goes D (novice - for players completely new to hockey), C (beginner - for players with some sort of hockey experience), B (intermediate - usually for players who have played hockey for several years), and A (usually reserved for players who have played some type of semi-pro or pro hockey before, anywhere from college club hockey to former NHLers).
I've always played my hockey at the Sportsplex, and that's the same scenario here. Haven't played in a while though, thinking I might join a C-league team at some point. Nice way to get back into the game and have a good time.
