so, if 2 wildcards come from the same division, which team stays in its division for the playoffs and which team moves over?

edit : or am I again confusing this with the previous proposed alignment?

someone give me a refresher on post season seeding/matchups

The interesting thing is that Brown negotiated the deal himself.

So much for guys needing agents.

Metropolitan has more teams actually on the actual Atlantic than the Atlantic Division.

Satan used to do the same thing. I never understood why guys needed agents. There's ******* 30 guys in the league you need on your rolodex, and they're probably calling you.

If both wild cards come from the same division, the last team in crosses over to the other division. So A1-5 make it and M1-3 make it, then A1 plays A4 and M1 plays A5. (2v3 matchups not affected at all).

I find it funny that the new Atlantic has none of the teams from the old Atlantic.

Actually: The seeding of the wild-card teams within each divisional playoff will be determined by regular-season points. The division winner with the most points in the conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the fewest points; the division winner with the second-most points in the conference will play the wild-card team with the second-fewest points.

While the article makes advanced stats sound a little more concrete than they really are, every point it makes is pretty dead on.

I laughed out loud at almost all of the practical tips because they're how most of the advanced stat discussions (both sides of the fence) around here go.

Good article, from a fact based perspective as well as the irony as the poster above notes. As a bonus, the last sentence is pure gold.

Meh. When it all comes down to it, wins are THE most important stat. You can be number one in every stat but if you don't win, it is pointless.

(this is the part where people yell at me saying the "advanced" stats lead to wins)

Yes, wins are the most important team stat. (But a borderline useless stat for evaluating goaltenders.) And, yes, there is a strong correlation between puck possession and winning. But you already knew that, else you wouldn't have made your snarky "cue the argument" comment.

No, winning the Stanley Cup is the most important stat.

And winning the Stanley Cup five years in a row is more important than winning the Stanley Cup.

And your goaltender stopping every shot is more important than him being fast or technically sound or having legs.

And your goalscorer scoring is more important than him having a good shot or speed or intelligence or both of his eyes.

And [conclusion] is more important than [factors creating conclusion].

I always assumed agents were preferable for negotiations so in case it got tough no ill will/resentment/whatever would be directly between the player and management.

pretty good deal for Gagner, he's going to hit UFA at the end of this contract... at 26 yrs old.

I can't believe he's still only 23 yrs old.

I imagine that's part of it. I also think its somewhat like many other major financial transactions people make (investing, getting a mortgage, selling/buying a house, etc). Some people feel comfortable doing it themselves. Whereas others would rather have some help/guidance from someone that does it for a living (financial planner, mortgage broker, real estate agent, etc)

It'll be interesting seeing what Jagr will do as a focal point of the offense at his age as there isn't a lot of help on Jersey

Wonder how much the draw of playing with Elias was to getting Jagr to join his country mate in NJ.

I wonder if this is a way for Lou to mitigate his lost first rounder this coming draft -- when/if the Devils are out of it, he may be able to spin Jagr off for something at the deadline. Not saying he'll get a 1st, but he'll get something.
