Aebischer Appreciation Thread

The thread had to be made. He's been playing well all season thus far and stood on his head tonight especially in the 3rd period. He kept us in the game tonight a la Theo 2001-2002. He deserved better faith but we'll take the point. Hope he starts against Ottawa.

Personally I wouldn't mind either goaltender for the game against Ottawa, but I definitely think Aebischer deserved it. I think Carbo is going to keep platooning, till one either goes Red Hot, or one goes Cold. I'll support either decision, but I think it would be nice to reward Abby with the next start due to him holding the fort tonight.

He deserves a star tonight. We would lose 8-2 @ the 2nd period. Whatever 1 goal or 2 (I don't care) he gave, without the other 47 saves + in shootouts, hic massacre

Even though I'm a huge Aebischer fan Huet did have a pretty solid game against Boston so either guy deserves the start at this point. Abby was unbelievable in the third, overtime, and the shootout though so maybe that'll tip the balance in his favour. On the other hand, letting Huet start might help him regain his confidence a little more.

I think they're gonna go 2 games, 2 games until they seperate themselves from one another. Aebischer will be in net against Ottawa, for sure.

I like Aebischer a lot, but I didn't like him much in the 3rd. He was flopping around quite a bit. Best of luck to him and your team (but not too much )

That save he made on McCabe right in front of the net when he tried to shoot it back thru his legs was quite awesome. As was his shoulder save on Wellwood...

51 shots..... what a barrage.

I still can't believe we got a point in this one. I hate to say it, but if Theodore had been in nets, he would have been pulled at the midway point of the third period after letting in the seventh goal.

Abby played fantastic all in all tonight. I agree that he did get a little floppy toward the end, but find me a goalie who doesn't after 50+ shots.

If he's feeling up to it, I'd say he should be rewarded with the start against Ottawa.

Check out these stats.

1st period: 8 on 51 shots
2nd period: 3 on 56 shots
3rd period: 3 on 57 shots
Overtime: 0 on 14 shots

Aebischer had two very bad first periods (in T.O tonight and Colorado last week) but other then that boy has he been amazing. A total of 6 goals on 127 shots in 2nd/3rd/overtime play!
That's a 0.953 save %!!!

Abby was flopping like a flounder all game but he had pucks coming from all directions. Looked like Hasek out there, making your heart almost explode.

This season, Abby has been the type of goalie that gets better as the game goes on and those stats prove it. If Rollie Melanson can figure out a way to buckle him down right from the start, then we're talking. Personally I don't mind him flopping left and right towards the end of the game because he managed to flop and dive effectively. It was not as though he dove for a puck and put himself in a bad position. He always managed to cover up and anticipate the next shot.

He looked uncomfortable in the 3rd. Flopping around like a fish out of water. Maybe it was because he got shell shocked.

He does that from time to time, and usually when he does he has his best games. Not sure if you saw his montage but his best saves come from looking like "a fish out of water". The guy relies on his athletism to make saves and with Rollie he should be able to tweak out his positioning and hopefully rebound control.

How? So far in the season it's been 2 games Abby, 2 games Huet.

I say keep going with Abby. He's been much sharper than Huet this year. He's a #1 goalie.

keep him in net while he's hot.

If he doesn't get the start next game it's sending a bad message to him.
