Then you have Hjalmarsson, Brodin, and Larsson who are likely ahead of him at this point.

They are probably high on Gustafsson given his WC performance, but there's just too much depth ahead of him. Unless he plays at his WC level this season, he won't get much consideration. Unfortunately, he won't be in a position to play at that level with Timonen, Streit, Coburn, and Schenn ahead of him on our depth chart.
I'm not super familiar with a lot of those D guys outside Karlsson and Kronwall. I know that Olympic team officials state the obvious that in international play you need to be able to skate and be fast.

Random, but I had no idea Lasse Kukkonen was still around. Mainly because I thought he'd be older than 31 by now.

You have to think that all 6 of Karlsson, OEL, Hedmen, Kronwall, Edler, and Enstrom are locks as long as they don't get hurt or substantially drop their level of play.

Larsson and Hjalmarsson are definitely ahead of Gustafsson. Brodin and Grossmann are probably at the same level competing for a spot.

It's going to be rough.

I was trying to find something "close to official" beacuse Czech national team had an "Olympic" camp for NHL players last week, but so far nothing about the roster.

By the way, one of those articles also had attached a gallery of pics of players who came over and man, Filip Kuba looks like he is closing in to his 50s

Well, OEL, Edler, and Enstrom basically epitomize fast, two way hockey. And Hedman is a lock for the team since he brings everything that their D core lacks (particularly size and shut down ability). There's pretty much no one in their top six that Gustafsson could displace.

I think the only chance Gustafsson has is if Enstrom gets hurt and they want a "mini Enstrom" to replace him. Otherwise, there are better options even on the taxi squad.

In these situations, the practical side of the fan in me – were I a Carolina fan – would hope that Ward, coming off the major injury this season, would have the Olympics to rest up. It's fun seeing your team's players compete on the world stage, but I'll be happier to see them going strong in the playoffs injury-free.

Yea, Meltzer agrees that there is a very small chance Gus & Gross make the team.

They're far from superstars, but guys like Murray and Oduya have veteran presence and Olympic experience, and Ericsson isn't a pushover either. Sweden will be stacked defensively.

Yeah. Honestly, being invited to Sweden's camp as a defenseman is a HUGE honor.

I was half-expecting Lidstrom to get an invite.

Well I'm sure the two starters will be Bob and Varly. Probably backed by Khudobin as well... maybe?

And the Jagr signing is even funnier because Devils fans have so much hope. Their lineup is pathetic from top to bottom. Schneider will have to stand on his head because their forwards blow and their D is not much better.

Anything can happen, though, so maybe Deboer can make it work. But on paper, their team is terribad.

Been watching him since last september and he sure could do the former this season (missed 2 or 3 games before Christmas due to an undisclosed injury in the Czech league and came back as strong as he was before that injury, missed a pair of games in Boston because of flu - and that's basically it for the last 9 months of hockey)

Just read an article that shows this season's upcoming travel miles and back-to-back games. The Flyers travel about the same distance as the last 82-game year, but have the number of back-to-backs significantly reduced from the past two 82-game seasons.

The number of back-to-backs is a big bonus for guys like Kimmo, who will now get a few extra days of recovery time between individual games over the course of the season.
