The number of back-to-backs is a big bonus for guys like Kimmo, who will now get a few extra days of recovery time between individual games over the course of the season.
I saw the Devils play 22 back to backs this year, 44 games redonkulous

We have 13 back-to-back games, a 6 day break likely for our annual bonding trip, two 3 day breaks at points in the season, and an 18 day break for the Olympics. December has two long road trips with a couple other road games in between. It will likely be the roughest part of our schedule. We're basically going to be traveling non-stop whether it's back home or to other cities.

All times are 7:00pm, 7:30pm, or 8:00pm unless noted.

* denotes a division team

We play the Devils, Islanders, Blue Jackets, and Hurricanes 4 times.
We play the Penguins, Capitals, and Rangers 5 times.

It sucks that we play the hardest teams in our division the most, but they also have to play us the most.

+ denotes particularly dangerous opponent

We play 35 games against tough opponents through the 82 game season. Obviously, 15 of those games include the Penguins, Capitals, and Rangers. The other 20 are outside the division.

December and March are going to be our toughest months with December getting the nod because of all the traveling going on.

We could just call it the Jagr Division since he's been with more than half of the teams playing it now.

Jagr always goes for the $$$. That's why the Flyers never made any sense.

I guess you have to be like that though when you're paying off all those gambling debts.

How the hell can we have a 6 day break during an Olympic year?

Do idiots make the schedule?

Arron Asham is not impressed.

Ruslan Fedotenko is pretty "meh" about that idea too

They were going for Divisions named after legends not third liners or goons.

The Jagr thread on the main boards is pretty good for a laugh if anybody is interested.

There's a poster in it who's spent the whole thread freaking out on anybody who doubts the Devils as playoff team or Jagr as a 60 point player for next year.

Good stuff all around.

Having just re-watched the US-Canada Gold Medal game the other day, Richards-Toews-Nash line was one of their best lines. Babcock's coaching again, so I would say Richards has a spot unless he proves otherwise. Richards is like the perfect 4th liner/extra guy. He can play center, wing, PK, he provides that spark and energy while having enough skill to still create offense on the big ice. When Canada gets in trouble is when they try to field and all-star team rather than a balanced team.

Surprised Carle didn't at least get an invite. US Hockey usually values guys who have past international experience. They definitely need LHD's as well. I guess this just shows what they think of him.

They could roll a 4th line centered by Bergeron with Richards on his wing.

Thank you so much for pointing my attention to that mess. I was laughing for a couple pages, and then I just got sad seeing how delusional some Devils fans are.

They have a forward lineup of almost 100% third line talent + Elias. And their fans say they have some of the best depth in the league.

I mean, it wouldn't totally shock me to see them grind their way to some success, but jeez, call it what it is; that lineup is a mess.

Yeah, they got screwed, talent-wise, when Kovalchuk scarpered off. Depth only goes so far; you can fill a kiddie pool all the way to the top, and maximize your depth, but there's still not a whole lot there to work with.

I'm surpised he didn't get an invite too. I would say he has no shot in hell making the team unless something crazy happens by then but I thought he at least deserved an invite to camp.

LHD
-DeKeyser
-Fowler
-Gardiner
-J. Johnson
-Leddy
-Martin
-McDonagh
-Orpik
-Suter
-Yandle

RHD
-Bogosian
-Byfuglien
-Carlson
-Faulk
-E. Johnson
-Jones
-Shattenkirk
-Trouba

I guess it's who you see making the team but I would say it's pretty balanced or close too at least. I would say Suter, McDonagh, & Shattenkirk are locks for the team IMO. I would also say Orpik, Jones, DeKeyser, Leddy, & Trouba are very unlikely to make it IMO.

That leaves you with:
Fowler - Bogosian
Gardiner - Byfuglien
J. Johnson - Carlson
Martin - Faulk
McDonagh - E. Johnson
Suter - Shattenkirk
Yandle

We only play the rangers 4 times. We play Pittsburgh 5 times (2 home, 3 away) and Washington 5 times (3home 2 away). Everyone else in the division is 4 times.

Inside division: 30 games, which is comprised from playing the NYR, NYI, NJD, CBJ, and CAR 20 times ( 5 teams x 4 games each) and playing PIT and WSH 5 times each ( 2 teams x 5 games each)

Inside conference, non division: 24 games. 8 teams and 3 games each

West: 28 games, play all 14 west teams twice

Remember Bylsma is the coach. I would imagine one if not both Orpik/Martin find their way on the team. As it stands now I think you have Suter, McDonagh, and JJ on the left side and then presumably one extra spot (they probably carry 8 defenseman). I would give it to Yandle, if for nothing more than being a PP specialist. Orpik was solid from what I remember in the last Olympics but with the bigger ice and him being 4 years older, I would go elsewhere. Martin is a little more suitable for the international game, but you never know what Paul Martin you are going to get. Now injuries will happen and make some decisions easier, but that's how I see it. The right side is where the toughest cuts will be.

Then you have Hjalmarsson, Brodin, and Larsson who are likely ahead of him at this point.

They are probably high on Gustafsson given his WC performance, but there's just too much depth ahead of him. Unless he plays at his WC level this season, he won't get much consideration. Unfortunately, he won't be in a position to play at that level with Timonen, Streit, Coburn, and Schenn ahead of him on our depth chart.
If Gustafson was right handed he would have a better shot. Just too many talented LHD's ahead of him and he's not good enough offensively to be a specialist. That and with Karlsson and Enstrom locks, not sure they would want to add another smaller defender. Grossman just isn't suited to play the international game.

They could also go back to the Patrick, Adams, Smythe, & Norris Divisions.

Metro Division = Patrick Division
Atlantic Division = Adams Division
Pacific Division = Smythe Division
Central Division = Norris Division

I agree, I prefer

Patrick Division
Adams Division
Smythe Division
Norris Division

And best team should always play worse team, and second best play second worse. Even better would be 1st pays 16th seed, every year would have different match ups, I do not care if you do not play a team you have a rivalry with.
