Surprised that Dekeyser is invited, good for him, even though he most likely won't be playing in Sochi. He's looking more and more like a realgud acquistion and he could play in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Datsyuk has said multiple times he wants him on his line. It could be gamesmanship but everything is pointing more and more to Abby being something more. Hopefully this season he can put up the scoring to warrant all the looks.

Quick and Miller will likely be the top 2 goalies for the US. Miller is still very good and is playing on a VERY BAD team. Miller was the national hero for the US last olympics, if the US wins the gold then we are talking about one of the best goaltender performances in the olympics.
It matters squat that Miller was the national hero of the last Olympics. He has had several indifferent seasons since then. Brodeur was similarly a national hero in Canada for his 2006 Olympic performance, and then did poorly in 2006. For reasons unbeknownst to me, he was given another chance in 2010, and yet again did not impress. Hopefully those making the USA's roster take note.

And he chose the US as his national team to represent when he played for them at the 2008 World Championship.

Look at his team, Brodeur played on very good Devils teams. Miller is playing on a team that just overspent in FA a few years ago and now is developing prospects.

He's still a very good goalie, he would make a fine #2 for the US.

Didn't realize he was invited to camp. He won't make it, but it's a credit to how highly thought of he is.

You could say that about Trouba as well.

Hopefully this is just reassurance that DeKeyser isn't going to "regress to the mean" as much as we thought in an 82 game season.

Of course, a lot of these look like showcase type invites. The message isn't "this guy could make the team" so much as "this guy is going to be a player".

Same as with Trouba, Jones, Gardiner, Faulk, and likely Leddy as well. I guess it's a bit different for Team USA, though, as they mostly have their D-core set out ahead of time. It's certain to be some combination of about 10 guys.

I think Leddy could make it but it's obvious some of these guys are showcase, which does include DeKeyser.

I'm just happy he got the chance and hopefully it pushes him to be an even better player.

People in hockey circles are clearly higher on him than a majority of our board. Also you will notice on the trade board from time to time, he has a much higher standing with other teams that are interested in him.

Glad Gator and DeKeyser got the call, this will help them, they get to skate in a world class environment and learn from some of the best. Has to be huge for their confidence to be included in this camp and that is a good thing for us.

Faulk should make this team. The D is going to be hard decisions but the left side is basically locked considering how Team USA feels about Jack Johnson historically.

Left side should be Suter, McDonagh, and Johnson. I pray they don't bring Keith Yandle as a US fan, he has no role on this team.

Right side you have Shattenkirk, Carlson, Bogo, Erik Johnson, and Faulk. Big Buff could go as a specialist and has that big forward flexibility. Makes Buff an interesting depth guy as a 7th D-man or 14th forward type option.

Brodeur's in the conversation for the best goalie ever, so I can see why the Team Canada decision makers (including our boy Babs) gave him another shot in 2010, especially with the Olympics being in Vancouver. It's not like it cost them the gold medal.

Miller had a dominant Olympic tourney in 2010 and I would think that's a plus in his favor for Team USA next year. He's been good but not great the least few years, but has had a generally poor defense in front of him. Knowing that Team USA will have 2 other very good goalies along for the ride, I'm fine with seeing him in Sochi (barring a complete meltdown this year, of course).

It matters what team they choose to suit up for in international hockey and in that respect Pominville is American. His refusal of suiting up at a couple World Championships caught up with him in my opinion. Not to mention the US just has a metric ton of right handed shots. Feel bad for him, thought he would at least get invited to camp, maybe he is taking care of an injury or something.

Would Martin Frk have a shot at making the Czech national squad?

Doubt it with the players currently in the NHL and KHL in front of him for that team. Maybe he does get a camp invite, haven't heard anything about their list, assuming it is out there and the fact we don't know anything means he is an omission.

Correction, they have not released their player camp yet when I google searched it.

That's pretty common from team to team. Sometimes we're hardest on our own guys.

After the playoffs, a lot of my non-Wing fan friends expressed more interest in Abdelkader than Filppula. Which statistically makes no sense, but they liked what he brought to the table on the forecheck.

Not really surprising, we by in large hate our best goal scorer as well best I can tell around here.

It isn't unique, but we have another several people suggesting Abdelkader is more than hot garbage in David Poile and USA Hockey. Good for Abby, this should be big for his confidence.

As a Canadian, I sure hope Leddy makes the team.

Shocked like everyone else that Abdelkader got an invite.

Leddy has about as much chance as Gator.

Not nearly as encouraging as I hope the goalies you have in camp make your team, I honestly think if Ward bounces back of injury he is probably their best option and he isn't even on the list. Canada is going to have the worst goal-tending of the major contenders, unless you consider the Czech Republic a major contender in 2014 which I have trouble doing.
