One of my favourite players of all time. Such a class act and just a beast of a defenseman. He was a force in the 07 cup run.
Definitely going to feel weird without him there, hopefully Subban can have the kind of career Nieds did!
I know everybody talks about Doughty from the 2010 Olympic games, but in my opinion, Scott Niedermayer was the best defenceman for Team Canada. He stepped up his game when we needed him most. An absolute legend of a player. He's won it all.
Edit: Anyone remember how good Brian Rafalski looked for Team USA? I believe he was voted the tournament's best defenceman.

Mike Richards as the 13th forward?
Bergeron was the 13th forward. Mike Richards and Jonathan Toews were an absolute force out there, I'm really hoping those two are reunited alongside a healthy Patrice Bergeron.
People underrate Kunitz IMO. He was 7th in the league in points last year, plays an all-around game and is very tough. Good character guy who I have no problem being invited to the camp - he earned it last season. Had 19 more points than Benn last season. Yes he played some with Crosby, but also produced without Sid too.
Well, just a personal preference I prefer Benn's game to Kunitz, yet I would agree that others should have been targeted....not sure what Marchand or even Lucic are doing there instead of Benn. Like you said on Twitter though, Benn can still be invited.
I guess it's because we're playing in Russia and it's kind of our national sports and I have very fond memories of the last time we won and how amazing that game was.
I don't remember feeling that joyous toward a Habs game - maybe Game 5 against the Caps comes close - but I was too young for '93.
If Canada had a drought like we had back in '02 (that line with Gagne, so clutch. Fell in love with Sakic there and then, too) it'd be a tossup for me... But in the current situation I'd go with the Habs winning but it'll kill me if Canada lost.
No way Pacioretty doesn't make the team, likely will be put on a line with Stastny and Ryan like in the 2012 WHC. I'd actually kinda prefer he doesn't go for injury prevention selfishness though.
That would imply Ryan playing on the RW... which already counts Kessel and Kane as candidates to play there. Don't think it's going to happen.
Pacioretty is not a lock. If it was solely based on picking the best offensive players out there, he would be a lock. But it's not. It's a matter of trying to find a good balance.
Pacioretty being a sniper, and team USA already counting on Kane, Kessel, Ryan and Parise for that role, I could see them considering Pacioretty too redundant in their roster, and bring in a guy who brings different things to the table.
You are delusional if you think Price is the starter if the games started today.
Whoever starts will be based on the camp. It's likely to be a rotation anyways and whoever shined best during it will get the starting job in the elimination rounds.
I think Price, Luongo and Crawford/Smith make it. Canada is a conservative I doubt they go with a 24yo goalie. They might choose to bring a veteran presence, Luongo won it last time, I'm pretty sure they won't snob him. I think Price will also be in due to his experience under team Canada, unless he has a horrible camp. Then it'll be between Crawford and Smith. My money is on Crawford.
