Backes or Pietrangelo would be my serious answer. To be perfectly honest though, I don't particularly give a crap if Chris Porter wears the C as long as they are winning and making some deep playoff runs.
Even if the Blues somehow mystically obtained Crosby, I wouldn't want him as the Captain.

Backes > Petro > Steen > Jackman

I don't see anyone else even close.

Oshie may be a crowd and team favorite, but being a captain is so much more than that. Leadership comes from many different areas and requires focus and determination in all levels of self, not just play and actions

Yes, but when the Blues visit some of the...establishments...in the Metro East who do you think takes the lead there?
Huh? HUH?

There's your leadership, what more are you asking for?

IMO it'll be someone not currently on the team.

I would be willing to bet a large sum of money that Chris Porter would be captain of this team before TJ Oshie would be. That's not so much a knock on Oshie as it is paying respect to Porter's qualities. The team captain is not always the most skilled or the highest-paid player on the team... indeed, many successful captains are not the most skilled or highest-paid player on the team.

I will go a little of the board with my pick:

If by some chance the two most obvious choices are not the captain in the year 2018/2019 (i.e Backes or Pietrangelo) then I would put my money on Patrik Berglund wearing the "C".

This scenario obviously requires that Berglund uses this upcoming "one-year prove-it deal" to become the player that he thinks he can be...IF he does that (and becomes an impact player a few years down the road) then I think management will feel that he has shown the leadership-qualities to lead this team...

I don't think Oshie has much of a chance. I think Shattenkirk, Schwartz, Tarasenko, and Jackman and Steen, if they're still with the team, all have better shots at the C than Oshie does.
If Jackman is still with the Blues in 5 years I will forfeit being a Blues fan for good.

Cya then. Sorry but Jax is a Blue for life. He will be good as the #5 guy for a good 2-3 years then will move down and be a perfect 3rd pairing shutdown guy.

Jackman isn't a good #5 guy now let alone in 2-3 years. The game passed Jackman by when the NHL took away clutching. You actually have to be able to skate. What is it about Jackman that has a portion of the fans committed to him? What does he do that 1 defenceman in the NHL doesn't?

Jackman blocks shots. Who doesn't? Jackman is tough and plays through injuries. The vast majority of NHLr's play through some sort of pain. Does he throw body checks? No unless you count pushing people against the glass if their back is turned. Can he skate fast? No, it's quite possible he's the slowest skater in the NHL. Can he be an enforcer? No, he face rubs at best. Is he a shut down stay at home D? No, he basically plays zone when he's playing 1on1 due to his slowness. Does he excel at passing or shooting? No. Usually when he has the most time in the D zone with the puck he winds up coughing it up. His shot is below average in pwr & accuracy.

So what is it about him that you like? The fact that he wears the Blue Note?

I like Jax but Hakanpaa will run him out of a job soon.

Hakanpaa is a Right Defenseman. Jackman is a Left Defenseman.

They play different positions...

Jackman is a Blue for life. He's still a great option on the second pairing. That not a good #5 now is complete nonsense as he was able to stabilize the top pairing before we got Bo when nobody else could. He is without a doubt a very solid defenseman and has stuck with this franchise through thick and thin. He's not the type of guy organizations show the door, but if they did, there would be 29 teams lining up to employ him.

Even if he plays the right side only I believe in 2 years he will force in a replacement for Jax to compliment him. I was a rare voice for Schwartz to start last season. I may also be in the minority that thinks Jani will be a stud in the near future. I know this has nothing to do with the thread title except I don't believe Jax will be here anywhere near 5 years.

Jani will have a Polak-like rise IMO, and that is who he will end up replacing.

Now say Polak-like 5 times fast.

And you acting like you have any idea that Oshie has no chance in hell to be a captain makes you the short-sighted one. You literally have zero clue.

By the way thanks for throwing that in there, I was worried what someone who is so bad at grammar thought of me as a poster on here!!!

Being the guy on an internet forum who tries looking smart by pointing out grammatical errors, . I'll proof read next time if it bothers you that much bud.

But back to my original point, I am simply being realistic. There is no chance in hell Oshie is our captain. I have nothing against Oshie, he has been one of my favorite players since day 1, but he is not what I would envision a captain being. He doesn't drop the gloves(well, we saw what happened when that one time) which is something I would like in a captain. Also, he has been told numerous times by numerous coaches to stop trying to dangle and start playing north-south hockey. He is a great teammate to have, but he is not a leader.

And does editing your post so it say's "you literally have zero clue" add any thing to the discussion?

Steve French knows nothing.

Oshie will captain this team next year maybe.
