Depressing when we only have two DMen getting invites and both are Russianns with serious knee injuries.

But we did get Briere.
Subban? Thats three of our top 6 getting invites, which is pretty impressive.

Uhm... Having 3 of your d-men (Subban was invited too) invited to their teams' respective camps is actually great. Knowing there's a possibility Diaz gets an invitation as well, that makes it 4... I'm not one to say we don't need improvement on D, but saying "we don't have a lot of players invited at those camps", especially on D, is pushing it...

having your top 4 or 5 playing in the Olympics along with your goalie and 3 top 6 forwards (Plex, Patches, Gally) get invites is pretty freaking awesome.

One thing I do wish is if we had a forward playing for Canada. Have Price, PK and ?? play for gold for Canada would be awsome. That being said, statistically speaking, it's harder to get a goalie and defensman in than a forward given the number of spaces alotted to those positions.

Unfortuantely, we don't have any prospect in the mix who could ever compete for one of those forwards spots yet.

I wouldn't say "ever". Even though it's only a remote chance, you never know if one of our smurfs could develop into a big-time clutch player i.e. Hudon, Gallagher. I wouldn't count on it, but you never know...

We may possess a good 1/4 of the eventual Team USA though, knowing Timmins! lol

We actually have a lot of invites. Confirmed are MaxPac, Gally, Emelin, Price, Markov, PK. Already that's 6.
Other safe bets are Plekanec and Diaz. Budaj also is hoping for an invite.
That's 9 players possibly headed to the Olympics. If Denmark would have qualified, Eller would also be on his way.

Not sure how that's disappointing.

If only we kept Yannick Weber, we would have another D going to the Olympics. Too bad he didn't have enough character.

I agree but I'm not sure he makes the cut. I hope he does but it will be tight.

It will depend on how he starts off the next season. He could make the team, but it's very unlikely.

At this stage an invite is cool in itself. I didn't expect that to happen...

I'm sure they know he'll be a big part of their roster moving forward. It's a smart move if only to introduce him to the process and some of the people who work for US olympic hockey.

Now if he makes it, that's just so much sweeter.

An honour somewhat diminished by Trevor Lewis also getting an invite.

The US invitations are strange.

... in addition to other things he lacked, like, defense awareness, decision-making and poise.

What? we don't have any other Russian D-men, or did you forget about Subban and Diaz? How many Olympians do we need on defence?

EDIT: Pleks is also a lock for the Czech and Eller would be there if the Danish team were good enough. Who else on the team is any good? Everyone else worth mentioning is Canadian or American and just aren't at the exceedingly high level needed to crack those rosters (although Abdelkader and Lewis made the US camp, so maybe they're just crazy south of the border).

What I find really good about this is that he's going to having a mini-training camp at the end of August with USA's best players. That in and of itself should help in his development and his motivation to continue to improve.
