Reinhart has been my choice for #1 in the 2014 draft for a couple years now... I'll stick to that. Ekblad certainly looks good as well.

William Nylander is pretty much the unanimous #1 pick right now. Ekblad #2, Reinhart at 3.

Has a Swedish player ever gone number 1?

I'm a fan of Jaden Lindo, but that could be because I'm a pretty big Attack homer.

He reminds of Wayne Simmonds. (And not because they're both black, before someone says it )

No need to discuss any other prospects we'll end up with Ekblad given the roster right now.

Ralph, Irving, Pollock, and Mayo are the only players on the active roster that are eligible for the 2014 draft so far, But I don't think any are projected to go in the 1st round yet.
But if guy like Seguin and Scheifele can make a name for themselves in their draft year after being relative unknowns anyone can.

Aaron Ekblad

Ok, this guy is the real deal but let's say others outperform him and he drops out of the top 10-15 and that where the Oilers land. Do they take him or go with a forward. Just imagine what our top 4 dman would look like in the future if it happens.

J.Schultz - Klefbom
Ekblad - Nurse
Marincin - Gernat

Ekbald could be viewed as being on the same level as Jones at this point. Not as good offensively perhaps, but I would say a better all round defender with far more grit. If you want him you had better be counting picking in the top three, top five at worst as there are fewer really top end forwards in this draft than there were last year.

Ok I agree with you but look at Cam Fowler, who was projected to go 3rd overall fell all the way down to ANA. I believe Oilers will improve but he could still fall. Even at that, Mckoewn is still a good Dman.

a lot can happen between now and the 2014 draft. Unless you are factoring the oilers will have a top five pick or something? As of right now he projected to go top five and maybe number one. There are a lot of scouts that panting over him

During the SC finals, the announcer in the following video said Aaron is projected to go in the top 5 in 2014. That's his dad sitting on his right, Bobby Orr is on his left. Can't see him falling too far down from the top 5 unless he gets injured.

Yep, David Musil was projected to go in the top 5 of his draft a year before his draft year. He was a projected to be the great all around defender as well.

I do think Ekblad will be a top 5 pick tho.

Ekblad will likely put up the best numbers he ever has in Barrie this year, and barring a disaster or injury, will likely go in the top 10 minimum. the Oilers would have to suck again this year to have a chance at this guy. sorry, but i'd like to draft around mid 1st and try for the playoffs than get Ekblad as much as i want him for this team.

Kinda like how Lazar was a potential top 5 pick but fell ..
If Ekblad falls... it will be for a good reason.

Um when did this happen? Mack, Jones, and Barkov were consensus top 5 picks from the start of year, with guys like Drouin, Nichushkin, Lindholm, and Monahan changing positions in the other 3 spots the rest of the way.

I realize this kind of thing is habit by now but...

If I could get you to just go ahead and just move this thread over to the Flames board, that'd be great. Mmmmmkay?

If Jones can drop to 4 when he was considered the best player in his draft class AT THE DRAFT, and Fowler can drop to 13 when he was considered the 3rd best, anything is possible when it comes to a defenceman.

^and i think it's a matter of what the individual team's scouts think as far as Jones goes....the top 3 teams that took other players, their scouts probably thought the player they took was better than Jones, despite Jones being the top ranked player in the draft. people say you should never draft for need, but i think the 3 teams that picked players over Jones perhaps picked for need?

Ekblad would be the perfect fit, going with him and Schultz on the right side and Klefbom and Nurse on the left. As of right now it's pretty unrealistic though, unless we were to luck out and win the lottery. Not getting my hopes up there.
