Mtl and Washington

What would Washington want in return for either fehr or chimera?

A 2nd for Chimera. That is assuming we get 2C somewhere so we have Johansson, Erat and Laich playing LW, otherwise we'll have no options for 3C.
No interest in trading Fehr and he's not what you're looking for. If you're looking for grit and toughness, take Joel Ward. Fehrsie is strong but he's more of a shooter/defensive forward, not a physical presence.

I like chimeras speed and I think he'd fit well in Montreal. Especially for a second or a third round pick

No from the Habs. Ward is an overpayed 3rd liner at best. Desharnais is still a decent #2C.

Ward is a third liner with size who can put up close to 40 points.

Desharnais is easily replaceable.

He'll give you Desharnais for Ward, but I won't. And Bergevin won't either.

Offensive 2 line center > defensive 3rd line winger. Especially if the center is 6 years younger.

Seriously, why would you give a 26 years old center who'll give you 50-60 points every year, for a 32 years old overpaid winger whose current ceiling is around 30 points a year, on a good year?

easy. players like Desharnais we don't need. he was great with Cole and Pac the year before, but we have more offensive talent now. we have Plekanec and Eller who will be playing center... and Galchenyuk might find himself the third C.

we don't need Desharnais' offense anymore. he brings something we already have and he's terrible on the wings. however, we could really use someone like Ward.

That's a ridiculous argument. We don't need a 50-60 points center because we already have other offensive players? And you think it's a problem to have too many offensive players??? And to solve that "problem", you're willing to trade him for a guy that has less value, that is less useful, who's overpaid and who's 6 years older?

Look at Pittsburgh. They have Crosby and Malkin. Too much offense! They should solve that "problem" by giving Malkin for a 2nd line winger instead.

Oh well. At least Montreal's "problem" is not that big. They are not stuck with offensive "problems" like Crosby and Malkin. All they have is Plekanec-Desharnais-Eller. But that's still too much offense for you, right?

By the way, Desharnais has never been tried on the wing. So how can you say he's terrible at that position???

DD may get 50-60 PTS but the last part of 12/13 season and playoffs was given every chance to succeed and didn't. IMO he could be replaced by Eller if it meant getting someone to play in the bottom 6 that can hit and play a tough game. I'm not sure ward is the answer but habs need more than parros and Prust. Eller Galchenyuk were great together and outplayed DD with a lot less ice time.

Desharnais has never played on the wing in the NHL or AHL. That's a fact.

I would trade Chimera for a 2nd, depending on how the off-season shakes out.

Instead of DD for Ward, based on a recent thread about MJ for a center, any interest in DD + for Marcus.

Caps get an offensive center that should do well with 2 big body in Brouwer and Fehr or even Ovy.

Mtl gets a two way winger with decent size to play with Eller or Galchenyuk.

What kind of + would be required?

Not to familiar with Caps lineup, so I may have misplaced DD.

HFBoards is the only place where in one thread a player is worth a 5th and in another is worth a 1st.

The Canadiens are more than set with forwards, we have prust playing 4th line duties without any rookies surprising. If you have a physical Dmen at a decent price we will take a flyer but we are done with forwards unless it's forward for forward swap imo.

Martin tried him out on the wing in the 2011 playoffs before he got injured by Boychuk I believe.

Point taken but Jordan Staal was traded for what he was worth, not less because of a surplus.

ward has been among the caps best playoff players. he's not for sale.

I suppose i could see McPhee trading a roster player like chimera, but i don't see why he would trade him for a draft pick. Where do the Caps find a replacement roster player at this point?
