I still think they could fit him in even with Penner.

The team is showing just under 6 million in cap room with a full 23 man roster. If Grabo gets added onto the roster someone has to be taken away so add on at least 575K in cap room (lowest cap hit on the team in Maroon).

Same cap room logic applies to Selanne. However, Selanne could be signed to an Iggy/Alffy over 35 bonus contract. Even if he hits those bonuses they get carried over to the following season.

If the Leafs were smart, they don't buy him out to give a 3rd liner an albatross of a contract.

Yeah, I get it...Montreal fans think he has character issues and that was true...7 years ago or whatever.

I'm not the same guy I was 7 years ago. Be silly to think Grabo is too.

I would bet on Legwand moving to wing. Poile put too much work into building that 4th line to just jettison Gaustad.

I would think Grabo is going to be signing a short 'prove it" deal to try to cash in long term on his next contract.

Nashville is a pretty good "prove it" location because he would almost certainly get top line ice time and PP time

that said I bet he signs somewhere else

I hope it is Nashville as well I could see a Wilson-Grabo-Hornqvist line.

How can you say that? Bozak fits with the team and more importantly Kessel better then Grabovski.

Might as we'll use the bad contract on a player that fits the team. BTW 4.2m > 5.5m

I was talking about the seven-year / $36.75 million albatross, not the other one.

Bozaks chemistry with kessel is overrated. I see kessel as a 80-100 pt guy with an offensively minded centre. Bozak cant produce given topline duty and pp time. Grabo was never really given a chance with kessel because he was driving his line for the past 2 years.

I'd like him on the Flames, give Monahan a chance to develop in the O this season and bring him up next year.

A 48 game season on the job and you know what Bergevin's criteria for player preference is. Seems legit.

Tallon sort of let it be known that he's working on a tight budget (cheap owners are cheap, what a surprise.. sigh) and won't get involved in the madness of overpaying we saw happen, hence why we've seen him only sign depth/AHL guys and RFA re-signings.
He let nothing of the sort "be known". All he said was he was going to go with the "youth". Everyone in Pantherland just ASSUMES that means its the owners are being cheap. Yes the owners set a budget but its up to Tallon to decide what the team will look like and how to spend that budget. In fact, Tallon stated well before the draft that we were going to be around the same amount budget-wise as last season (actual salary was between $52-55M last yr, currently at $49.3M).

If Grabs is willing to sign a 1 yr deal for something between $2.5-3.25M, then Tallon & the Panthers will definitely be able to bring him in and allow him to earn that bigger contract that he's gonna want next yr. Though I'm not that sure Tallon is really that interested in Grabovski TBH as he's not exactly the "type" that he looks for.

He got into a bar fight 3 years ago when he was out of the line up with a broken hand. To me that screams character.

Zero chance Nashville is interested. Now, more than ever, they're stressing high character. I think Grabbo's tirade, justified or not, toward Carlyle likely soured them.

Not to mention, Poile and Trotz have said that they're done in free agency, and are more likely to add via trade now.

I'd love him in Jersey. From what everyone says he doesn't quit. Would be nice to have someone who didn't just get up and quit.

Yeah...except since he left Montreal he's gotten into fights with 2 of his Leafs teammates, got into a bar fight in Vancouver, made headlines by biting another player, and took to the media to rip his ex-coach on a level I don't think I've ever seen a player do before in my life.

But, you know...it's just Montreal fans holding a grudge. Or whatever.

I'd hope he'd come to NJ but I'm sure he's looking for 3-5 years. I'm not sure Lou would go through with that. You never know...
