Canes-NYR-Avs

Boring time of year, just a thought.

NYR: Strength at LHD (McDonagh, MDZ, Staal), seem to need a top 6 LW
Canes: Have strength in the top 6, but are trying to improve their defense (and they need another Staal), rumor is they are looking for more cap space
Avs: Need to upgrade on LD and have Elliott who is very similar to Barrie as a PMD/RD. Could also use more depth at RW

Marc Staal (LD)

Jiri Tlusty (LW)
Stefan Elliott (RD)
Avs 2014 1st

Tim Gleason (LD)
Zac Dalpe (C/RW)

Ready...
Set...
Tear it apart!

I mean...idk...neither Gleason or Dalpe really help us all that much...especially at the expense of our 1st round pick.

Avs get shafted. Great value for the Rangers, but I don't know if I'd pull the trigger.

I don't think we need to move our 1st or Elliott to get Gleason, so doing it in a 3-way seems strange. If we're giving up those, I'd want Gleason + Hagelin somehow.

No from Avs. We don't need Dalpe and I wouldn't trade the 1st and Elliott for Gleason. Don't have an alternate suggestion, would rather just hold on to that 1st just in case...

Ideas to even it out?

-Maybe Dalpe is not as valuable as I thought he was. Maybe another or additional prospect needs to come Avs way?
-Was projecting the Avs to finish 10-20, and likely the 1st would be lotto protected, but the 1st seemed required to get the Rangers interested.
-Thought about Pitkanen, but he would seem to hold less value

Proposed 3 way trades never work, and the Avs get shafted completely in this one.

Was this thread started by an Avs fan? Colorado gets the worst end of this deal by a good margin IMO.

So we give up our first in a trade with NYR and Staal is a part of it, and we get Tim Gleason instead? God no.

I like it.

Although, since Avs fans don't seem too excited giving up their 1st, make it McLeod, 3rd and Mitchell instead of their pick?

Yeah, I'd rather just deal straight with NYR for Staal. If we're giving up what is almost definitely a top 10 pick and one of our defensive prospects, I don't want a package coming back. I want that value to be in one good player.

How about we just give up Dalpe.

No? Okay, then we'll just wait to sign Marc in 2 years when he's a UFA for nothing.

And keep Tlusty and Gleason, two players that Carolina actually really needs.

Keep waiting....

People forget that all of his brothers have rings, and he doesn't. Right now, the Rangers are more of a contender than the Canes. No offense intended.

I keep seeing Canes fans say this. Has Staal actually said this, or is it just speculation because Jordan wanted to play there?

No thanks...that is awful for the Avs OP. A likely top 10 pick and Elliot and we're not even getting back the best defensman in the deal?

Take out our 1st and Dalpe and maybe...

Fair enough,

I way over valued Gleason and Dalpe obviously. I don't think the Avs pick top 10 either, but we can lock this up.

So now we're giving up arguably our best defenseman for Elliott, two marginal players, and a mid-round pick? Thank god you are not Glen Sather.

Really, it doesn't take Dionne freakin' Warwick to speculate that he'd naturally want to come play here. What, you think when the family gets together (like they do all the time) that his brother's don't talk to him about that? And that Eric would maybe have a little sidebar with Rutherford about it? It was no accident that the last game they played against the Rangers, the first line out on the ice was Marc's other 3 brothers.

Of course he wants to win a cup, and figures he has a better shot in NY. Which is why I'm sure he wants to stay there the next 2 years. But NY was supposed to be a legit contender the past couple of years. If they continue to fizzle out...why wouldn't he cut away when his contract is up?

But the bottom line is that why would Rutherford hamstring the team to get him right now? We have a problem on D. So, we give up our best D man to get somebody who is a better D man. And one of our tops scorers. And some other guy. He paid too much to get Jordan, I really don't think you'll see that repeated.

Tlusty? I said replace the Avs' pick. I didn't say replace Jiri. I would love him on the team, he's cheap and hopefully he can keep up his ridiculous scoring pace.

Horrible deal for the Canes. So we give up our top line LW, a top 4 d-man and a player that figures to make the Canes top 9 for Marc Staal?

Yeah, not happening.

We'll definitely wait, we'd rather do that than overpay for him in a trade and if he re-signs in NY then so be it.

And no offense taken, the Rangers might have a better chance now on paper, but the Canes look to be a playoff team with our improved top 4 and with Ward healthy. We were a playoff team before he got injured. The Rangers probably need Marc more than we do right now.
