Bears DT Sedrick Ellis has not reported to training camp. Ellis has advised the club of his intention to retire from the NFL.

That sucks, thought he could be surpise player. At the same time, you're already a multi millionare, sitting at home having a great time, I can understand why guys would just decide to stay home, especially after already winning a ring.

A pro team being smart for once. I love it.
Agreed. The media is trying to make a big story out of this, since it's all they have to talk about right now, but the fact is that this shouldn't surprise anyone. The Bears have barely $1.6M in cap room and they probably need that for an "in case of emergency break glass" fund. They don't have the money to sign extensions right now, so why bother. Side benefit: Keeps people focused on the season instead of their deals.

The really ****** thing about this, is that this dude signed a deal with us, and about a week later Izzy signed with the Lions. If this dude would have decided a month ago that he wasn't into playing this year, we could have (probably would have) gone after Izzy more aggressively when he was available.

But he waited till now, after Izzy is signed, and there is slim pickin's out there for DTs right now.

@JasonLaCanfora: Percy Harvin (hip) among those who open Seahawks camp on the PUP list
Another reason Harvin is a bit over-rated. Dude can't seem to keep healthy and stay on the field.

Yea, but I don't know how excited we should be about him. He was solid for us a couple seasons ago. Last season we cut him, Tampa Bay signed him then cut him again, and then we took him back but he didn't do anything on the field with us. He also was oft injured last season I thought.

I'd guess he's done, and shouldn't be an option.

#Bears move quickly to replace Sedrick Ellis. Have signed DL Jamaal Anderson to a 1-yr contract.

He is probably the one guy I heard the most about from Falcons fans, while he was here, and that wasn't a good thing.

Jamal Anderson is probably still a better player than Jamaal Anderson.

What is he doing? I can't tell... have been super busy lately so haven't really been able to read on it much, not that I'm exactly dying to.

Arizona Cardinals ‏@AZCardinals 13m
The #AZCardinals placed wide receiver Ryan Swope on the reserve/retired list due to concussion issues. #CardsCamp #nfl

I was intrigued by Swope too, and liked him for a 4th-5th round pick. Obviously Emery and the Bears had better insights into his health than were made public or that the public assumed. Loved his skillset, but at this point, you can't question not drafting him.

It's also good to see he won't be risking the rest of his life by trying to play in the NFL after all those concussions, so he and the Cardinals made the right move here.

After signing a five-year contract extension that makes him one of the league's highest-paid players, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said the new deal doesn't put added pressure on him.

"The expectations we set for our football team and my personal expectations are higher than any expectation anybody's going to put on you,'' Ryan said.

And those are sky high for a franchise that came up 10 yards short of advancing to the Super Bowl last season. "I've said many times, we're not going to really rest until we have [Super Bowl] rings,'' owner Arthur Blank said. Ryan's deal could be worth up to $103.75 million and averages $20.75 million per year, according to ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. Ryan will make $63 million in the first three years of the deal.
