Well it was the great cleanup and they were not gonna re-sign anyone so yeah maybe they should have kept him, but were talking about Gainey wanting to give a fresh new team to Gauthier.

He tried to sign Kovalev and Komisarek though.

I personally don't care for the French player debate but I'll always respect Tanguay for waiving his no trade to come here and take on the pressure in our 100th year no less.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against Tanguay and I thought he did a good job in his 50 games, but he was still on his last year of his contract and giving a 1st for that type of player when you don't know if he has any future with the team is a lot. The result is that every teams in the league got better long term that year (and in hindsight, 2008 was an awesome draft) except Montreal's.
