Gonna be interesting to see the term/caphit he gets.
He had a good year, no doubt about that. But he's also been inconsistent year-to-year. Plenty of goalies put up one great year and then fade. I'd be hesitant to give a big money longterm contract without seeing back-to-back solid years out of him.
As a Hawks fan I love Crawford & thankful that he backstopped us to a cup, but he is not a priority right now especially with Raanta in the system. I would like to see how Crawford does this year(and also see what Raanta is capable of) before giving him the extension. Even then, anything over 5(either caphit or term) would be a mistake.
Would rather have the money go to Hjalmarsson, then Toews/Kane and future RFAs than Crawford. Just not a fan of giving goalies big money over big years, would rather roll the dice with Raanta or a bargain bin UFA 2014-2015.
He'll get more than Jimmy Howard, but less than Rask.
Howard is maybe the best comparable for Crawford.
I'd be shocked if he got more than Howard from the Hawks. He might deserve it, but the Hawks strategy typically isn't built around making the goalie part of the "core", and that type of contract would change that approach.
