LA Kings a possible trade partner?

It's not sure who the LA KINGS were scouting in the game between Montreal and Ottawa. After looking at their current roster you can't help but notice 3 very young and skilled center's. Are the Canadiens actually interested in either Kopitar, Cammalleri and O'Sullivan?
Of course they are, who wouldn't be!

I don't think Souray is what the kings are looking for with the likes of Blake and Visnovsky on their powerplay. If a trade were to happen I am 100% certain Souray would be but a small, yet noticeable piece of the puzzle.

Souray + a very skilled winger for one of their skilled young centermen?

I think we should get a defensemen before looking at a center.

As per La Presse, the Kings were scouting the Sens. Apparently, they might have something in work for unloading Conroy there.

Think about what would happen if Koivu went down with an injury?
Kovy is not a centermen so we can't rely on him to pick up the slack... Montreal needs either a 1st or 2nd line centermen ASAP!

I agree I wouldn't be too confident with Kovalev/Bonk as our two centers.

Well what if the team plane crashes and we lose all our players? WHAT WILL WE DO?

p.s. Higgins/Johnson/Plekanec can play C.

Sure they can but who will replace them and play as good as they are playing right now?

They'll adjust if it happens. These threads are kinda stupid when they turn into "oh what if mr. X and mr. Y get injured, we'll have no one to play there!"

So you don't think Gainey is concerned at all with the depth they currently have at the center position?

They were there to look at Alfredsson and Volchenkov. Ottawa is in change mode, the Habs are not.

The Kings are rebuilding. They aren't looking for an additional vet. IMO, specially an UFA. In fact, they are apparently looking to trade Visnovsky and Conroy. Both could be good fits for the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators.

My guess is that Conroy will be traded to Ottawa.

Muckler denied the Alfredsson rumor, but it's entirely possible they were there for Volchenkov or more...

If I had my choice though, since the kings are never gonna give up Kopitar, for anything short of Malkin (though the pens would never do this)...I'd go for O'Sully or Cammalleri

Completly wrong. Where's Abby and the 2nd round pick?

With Pleks being able to fill in anywhere from 1st to 3rd line centre, I really don't think he's that worried.

Out of that list, you have one 1st line centre then a bunch who are either more comfortable at wing (Kovalev, Begin and Higgins) or 3rd line centers as far as we know. Add to that the fact that said first line centre is injury prone.

Compare that to having 8 defencemen when healthy, 3 of them capable in a top pair, and 6 of them capable of comfortably playing 20+ minutes.

We may have a lot of centres but in terms of quality, it is definitely lacking more that our defence imo.

There are very few teams in the NHL that could replace their #1 center with another #1 center if they went down (SJ and TB comes to mind). Therefore, most other teams are in the same boat as us and you don't see them panicking. Why would montreal trade for a 1st or 2nd line center right now when they are in the middle of an experiment with Kovy... It would be pointless... We would have to give up another piece of the puzzle (probably Souray) which would end up screwing the Habs over in a different way. Also, why would LA give up one of their "young centermen" when they are trying to rebuild... once again, it would be pointless...

Its pretty obvious that LA was probably there to scout Ottawa so I don't expect any trades to happen. Let Kovy play on the 2nd line because after two games (I know its only 2 games), he's been pretty good (1g 3a). As far as our center depth goes, when it comes to 3rd and 4th line centers, we are set and I imagine that one of them could probably pick up the slack on the 2nd line if Kovy or Koivu went down.

Why sould he be concerned ? We have Johnson, Plekanevc, Bégin, even Higgins can play center + Lapierre, Chipchura, Locke and Grabovski in the minors.

Ottawa need a second or third center like Conroy.
