The Road Warriors signed a few guys the other day; Adam Pleskash (formerly from AIC), Robbie Bourdon (formerly from Colgate University), Matt Thurber (formerly from Northern Michigan University).

Meh on Carroll, wish it had been Wiebe instead.

Goaltender Jeff Malcolm, who backstopped Yale's NCAA title this year & was #NYR prospects camp invitee, signed today with @WolfPackAHL

That's a pretty shrewd signing. Malcolm was stellar in the Frozen Four, but he's incredibly streaky. One night he's on fire, and the next he's kicking rebounds into the middle like it's his job.

I like this. Not sure what to expect out of Malcolm, but there's no risk to getting another goalie in there for camp/preseason. It's good for competition.

Seems like an odd signing with Missaen, Talbot and Stajcer all looking for playing time on (2) teams. Any chance one is loaned out to another AHL/ECHL team to see more minutes?

maybe Biron gets dealt down the road and Talbot takes over for Biron as the backup once traded.

I think he'll split time in the ECHL with Stajcer. Then hopefully one of them emerges and can take split time in the AHL next year with Miss while Talbot fills in for Biron.

It seems like a wasted development year if they each play ~30 games though. And if they think Miss will be the 'Pack's starter next season, they should let him play a ton of games this season in the ECHL. He has to get his conditioning and endurance up.

Color me shocked if Stajcer manages to stay healthy all year. Plus it's a lot to ask of an NCAA goalie to come in and play 60 games as a starter.

Maybe not 60, but 45-50 would be reasonable.

This is a smart signing, particularly given that it doesn't count against the 50 NHL contracts.

Given the inconsistency shown by both Miss and Stajcer, and the latter's history of injuries, plus the possibility that Talbot would get called up if Lundqvist or Biron get injured, it makes sense to add Malcolm.

Plus, he had a terrific season for Yale, losing as many games in 28 decisions as his two backups did in 9.

Like the signing. Hopefully if he plays well it doesnt become a JAM situation where he signs elsewhere for a better NHL opportunity.

Miss doesn't need to play every game at the ECHL level, he needs to practice in the AHL and get in 30 games against real competition, facing shots from guys who are close to making the NHL, rather than guys who are one cold streak away from playing against me in a beer league.

He already played 45 games in the ECHL the last two seasons (40+5), plus 25 in the AHL this year. If he goes back to the ECHL, given his size and recent improvement, he'll dominate there. But it won't help his game. Miss needs to keep working on his lateral movement. His size is already great and his glove is very good too, but the lateral movement needs work, and it can only be improved against quality AHL competition, both in games and in practice.

Like the signing & it doesn't count against the 50 limit. Try him out, see how he does, & is a nice addition to the Pack just in case there was an injury.

this is one reason i hate AHL contracts. they can use the Rangers to get noticed and sign an NHL contract with the Islanders or another team... i think their should be a rule that if teams that sign players to AHL contracts should have to sign them to NHL contracts for the following season with the parent NHL team once their AHL contract is finished... players can use the AHL contracts for leverage

If those players had the option to sign an NHL contract, they absolutely would. They aren't signing an AHL deal just to showcase themselves. The Rangers are the ones who determined that JAM would get an AHL deal rather than an NHL deal. If they had offered him an NHL deal to begin with, he'd still be Rangers property.

For every JAM, there are dozens of players who play out their AHL deals and are never heard from again.

What if they're not good enough for one? The AHL contract is the whole point of that. If you want their rights, sign them to an NHL contract.

JAM was an exception in that he was offered an NHL deal, but turned it down figuring he can get a better deal after paying a year in the AHL.

I stand corrected. Still, it's his right to do so. It totally could have backfired on him.

Congrats to client @ShayneWiebe who just signed in Switzerland. Other than the NHL, there's no better place to play

So long Shayne, would have loved to see you on the 4th line this year.

This sucks. I liked his game. Good luck in Switzerland, a great place to play and live in.

Tessier is a good example of a player who you'll never hear of again

Malcolm should supplant Missaien without much trouble at all... the big J can try to beat out Stajcer for the ECHL squad.
