Nice, I was going to guess an AAV of $5.5M. Good on the Jets for locking him up long term.

Wheeler is a fine Jet. He seems to love playing in Winnipeg almost as much as Bogosian does. Great to lock up the big man, now the focus is on Bogo.

Jets felt sorry for Bombers and decided to distract from the game - cooperation

great news - bit higher AAV than I expected but 6 yrs makes it worth it

Not bad. 6 years is a bit high though.

I think the dollar amount is to high and the term is good. It does seem like this is what market value is becoming for similar players.

Not a discount by any means, but this is a good move for the Jets. He's a solid forward and should be a top 6 forward on any team in the league. Need to retain those, especially for a team lacking depth on wing.

You're joking right? This buys 5 UFA years. Wheeler would easily get over 6 on the open market.

Awesome! A bit high on the price but the amount of UFA years this buys makes that alright.

Good deal considering how many UFA years it gets.

I wasn't joking, no.

Collectively, fans have lost 1.5 years of hockey since 2004, and you don't have a problem with guys like Blake Wheeler getting paid 5.6 million per season?

Love this. My guess was we would sign him for 5.5 through his UFA years. I also figured it would be a 5 year deal, love that it's 6 and the Jets retain him for his first 5 UFA years.

Wheeler could and should hit the 70 point column this year.

"Guys like Blake Wheeler?"

You mean someone who was a top-15 scorer for RWs the past two years?

Blake Wheeler is a top line winger.. look at his numbers the past 3 years. Safe to say he's a 60 point player at the worst (which is the average amount of points a 1st line winger gets).

And with that, the second buyout season officially closes before it opens, as no team will have 2 players in arbitration hearings.

The Jets were the last candidates.

He had the team by the you-know-what after his performance last season. Definitely didn't take a discount I see but I'm sure Jets fans are happy to retain the guy either way.

I like Little's deal a bit better but this is more than fair. Good for Winnipeg.

Edit: Just realized what he's making compared to Clarkson. I can't believe how Nonis got a 5 year contract after signing that deal haha.

Has he solved the offside problem that the Bruins fans would often complain about?
