Colby Armstrong to Vaxjo (SHL)

According to swedish sources Colby has signed a 1 year contract with the team Växsjö in Sweden. The GM for the team won't comment on the matter so it's not confirmed yet.

He wanted to 'test' the free agent market, guess he found it.

Im curious what happened to this guy. Was it just the injuries or something else? Seemed to produce pretty well up to 08-09.

Injured fairly often so no team wants to give him a shot in the NHL. My guess is that he's going to have a good year in the SHL and then get a contract with an NHL team next year.

He's too slow and non-physical at this stage of his career to play in the NHL. The only thing he's got going for him is a good attitude. I doubt he has a good year in Sweden at all. He's not suited for big ice.

My thoughts as well. Just wondered how he became so slow and non-physical. I thought he was the kind of guy who would stand up for his teammates and hit everything that moves.

He's barely a 4th line quality forward anyway at this point. If he can get some decent money overseas then go for it. Irregardless I still thought a team would sign him to a cheap 1 year deal in the NHL for depth purposes. No doubt he can lighten the mood in the dressing room. Seems like a good dude so good luck to him.

I still get a laugh out of all the posters who said the Pens traded away their future when he was part of the Hossa deal.

He couldn't intimidate a fly on the wall. He's more of a pest than anything but the guy is too much of a joker for anyone to take seriously

I would add he does bring fairly sound defensive play, but overall this is correct, at this point Colby Armstrong is basically ''just a guy'' who fills out a jersey and is a heck of a locker room presence.

Yeah checked his stats from those past years and he wasn't that physical after all.

Im starting to understand why his career went downhill.

His career went downhill because he stopped playing with Crosby

He was good in his first year with Toronto but after that injuries made him a non-factor. He couldn't score, he couldn't skate, he couldn't hit.

Loved him after year 1 in Toronto. Gave him a pass for all the fluke injuries, then he showed up to year 2 without any speed or willingness to play.

He looked like he gave up.

I thought he did a great job on the habs 4th line last year. Excellent ok the pk. I had hoped Vancouver would sign him for their 4 th line

At least he went out on a high note.

First guy to hit the deck in the playoff Montreal Line Brawl Massacre of '13.

I'm surprised no nhl teams signed him. He's a competent 4th liner. Better then many other 4th liners
