Josh Gorges to Washington

Washington needs a LHD and I've seen Gorges in a lot of proposals lately. Has his value gone down? What would it take to get him in Washington?

Didn't have a great year, so you'll get a lot of fans that wouldn't be opposed to moving him.

I would do a trade around Troy Brouwer

But honestly, I don't think management would look to trade Gorges, they seem to be big on character players, and Gorges was the player who took one of the young players into his home last year, so I think management wants to keep him around specially with wanting to build a young team.

Brouwer is way too big. Mathieu Perreault is a much better fit.

I'd do Joel Ward + 3rd for Gorges

or

Tom Wilson + 3rd for Gorges

@Habsawce that's wonderful however if our management did I would like some kind of drug test.

Gorges is on a long contract and can be replaced with the depth on defense the team has IMO. Ward or Wilson fill a need for grit, size and PK in the bottom 6 that the team needs going forward if they're going to compete.

Unless you think you could squeeze a 2nd out of Washington as well I think it could work.

I'd do Josh Gorges for Tom Wilson and a draft pick. Beaulieu can easily replace Gorges (although it would be hard to break in two rookie defensemen (Tinordi being the other defenseman) at once)

Habs main weakness is on D. Very little chance gorges is traded.

No he can't. He can maybe help replace Markov in a year, but Beaulieu isn't going to willingly take a puck to the face on the PK.

Gorges had a poor year, but I bet he bounces back.

"Beaulieu can easily replace Gorges"

How many rookies can step into the NHL and replace a 20+ min defenseman who plays on our first PK unit?

I think there's a reason all the really stupid posts by habs fans are kept to the main boards. They've been chased off their own forum.

Beaulieu can easily replace gorges

Exactly, Gorges is our only true DFD.

Value-wise, Troy Brouwer is fair value but as others have mentioned, there isn't anyone (yet) ready to take on Gorges minutes on defense (and be as effective). It would then take an overpayment for that reason.

Habs aren't in a position to trade Gorges. If someone else emerges during training camp(there's no one, but just to say) then maybe but as is, we can't.

The only way Gorges gets traded is if a D comes back to replace him in a package deal. Otherwise, it's not happening before the season starts.

Would something like Erskine/Orlov + Brouwer/Chimera/Ward interest Habs fans? Gives them a grinding forward along with either a promising young defender in Orlov, or a tough defensive defenseman in Erskine.

Haha Tom Wilson in a deal for Josh Gorges. Not going to happen. The deal that involved Ward was more like it.

There is a huge difference between those 2 proposals.

I would easily do the first one but there is no way we are moving Wilson if Gorges is the main piece coming back.

You would trade Orlov + Brouwer for Gorges?

Maybe something around Laich and Gorges? Predicated on the fact that McPhee, by some unlikely miracle, does look outside the organization and bring in a 2C.

gorges might be a good fit for the caps needs. i am not sure about 5 years on a defensive d that plays his style though.

what i do know is that brouwer and Wilson aren't going anywhere. orlov appears to be out favor. chimera....maybe.

i just don't think McPhee would want that contract commitment. if Pittsburgh were to trade orpik, that would be more like what McPhee would be interested in....except the penguins part of the equation

what about McPhee...like him or as most do, hate him...tells you he wants to part with laich? i sure don't see it. i certainly see McPhee planning on Johansson at 2c as the season progresses and laich moving back to wing, but i don't see Laich being for sale.

when was the last time McPhee traded a piece he thought of as a long term part of the plan?

edit: with Laich's groin, most teams are going to want to make sure he is healthy and has his game back before trading for him. if he is playing well enough for teams to want him, you'd think McPhee would then want to keep him.
