Players who want to be a King

with the signings of dustin brown and trevor lewis to contracts smaller in dollars than what they could of received on the open market shows how much dean lombardi has worked and succeeded in making and getting players to want to be a King,

trevor worked with the Kings in accepting this 1 year deal, so the Kings could afford him (and cliffy), and then do a longer term richer contract next year when the cap is supposed to increase,

trevor is one of the best "lunch pail" guys the Kings have, thus this is a great deal for all,

Why the smiley, don't know about fanbases but I'm sure all 29 coaches / gm's would want Brown on their team. He's a rare breed, even maybe a truly unique player. Leader (which is what separates him from guys like Lucic), leaves all on the ice, ferocious hitter and when he goes to beast mode he looks like mvp (unfortunately we didn't see that this season but everyone remembers the stretch between gm 1 against Canucks till gm 1 against Coyotes).

Oh, and he's a diver, agitates other teams best players and generates a lot of hate. I guess we'll see "Is Dustin Brown a dirty player?" thread on main boards in every May in the upcoming years.

You guys might recall the feeding frenzy at the trade deadline in 2012 for Brown.

The demand for Brown by other teams was enough to convince Lombardi not to move him.

For someone whose many fan-bases were calling a dirty player, they sure salivated at the thought of having him on their team.

a fair comparable for Brown is Doan. He got multiple 4 years x $30 mil offers as a 35+ player. Meaning, it probably would have gotten a fair amount higher had he haggled them. Anyone who doesn't think Brown gave a huge hometown discount is not appreciating the gravity of his sacrifice.

I personally, would have went 7+ per year easy on Brown. I put Brown up with Getzlaf and Perry. A top hitter + goal scorer + leader?? Only problem is we don't have 22 more.

You got a quote or a link for that? Last interview lombardi gave he mentioned the cap going down 6 mil this year and 3 mil the year after. Perhaps I heard it wrong. I have been under the impression that the cap is going to go down this and next year.

I know Dustin Brown is worth WAYYYYYYYYYYY more and I mean wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more then Sam Gagner is. And Gagner is getting 4.8 a season.

In the grand scheme of things its a little bit more then 2 million in raise its not that big of a deal. In a few years when the cap goes back up. Richards, Carter, Brown, Quick are all going to look like steal cap hits.

Good point. But I think when dean talked about making the team desirable so that FAs would want to sign here, he was talking about star FAs from other teams wanting to come here-not so much as resigned players. But good job anyways.

I lold at you saying brown is worth as much as getzlaf and fairy. Now I hate those guys just as much as the next kings fan but to say brown is even in the same conversation as those guys, well, I don't even.

Corey Perry is overpaid, and a guy like Carter is underpaid.

Getz is paid about what he deserves. Brown would have landed 6.5 easy on the open market.

Some of you guys are hilarious, and thank Jesus you aren't the KINGS GM.

You do realize it took trade rumors to wake Brown up in 2012 to start playing to his potential, right? You do realize, that along with Kopitar, he was practically invisible in the 2013 playoffs, right?

Look, what Brown did in the cup run was ****ing awesome and just for that, the dude deserves a nice cash reward. But in my opinion, there are two Browns....one that leaves your head shaking wondering WTF.....and another who was a dominant force in the 2012 cup run. I wouldn't doubt if this cap hit is not looking so great a few years from now.

You can count on one hand how many wingers, have 20+ goals 50+ points and 300+ hits(each season) over the last Five years.

Had this last season been a full one, Brown would have reached those numbers again.

Some of you don't realize how good Brown is.

He is not Getzlaugh good, but Brown is a very good Winger. Every player goes through slumps, Corey Perry was awful in the Ducks playoff round (2points) and that guy is supposedly so skilled.

Let's not forget that Clarkson, holder of one 30 goal season and one other season if projected over 82 games would've topped 25, got 7 years @ $5.25M. Brown is younger, has 5 20+ goal seasons and another if projected over 82 games of 30+ goals. We all know it, teams go insane in free agency, Brown could have gotten 7x7 fairly easily.

If Dustin Brown had signed with any other team, the max contract would have been 7 years (as opposed to 8 for resigning with the Kings as per the CBA)

Even if he signed for the same salaries for the first 7 years of his current contract (7.25, 7.25, 7, 6.5,5.5,5.5,4), his cap hit would have been $6.1M.

The fact that he took an 8th year at $4MM pushed his cap hit down to $5.875MM.

To answer your question, Dustin Brown would make over $6MM average without even changing the dollar amounts in the first 7 years of his contract.
