I was positive we traded Hackett to SJ for Sundstrom and a 2004 2nd rounder...

But I went through Total Hockey, and found that they claim it's a third... Can anyone recall if it was a second or a third???

No... Chouinard I remember being the second rounder (Maxim LaPierre)But I honestly thought a second for Hackett because I remember thinking if it was in last years draft, we'd have 3 2nd rounders... Which would have been beautiful in my books
That is also why I thought we were waiting for so long to finish that deal... (an extra calender year) Was so that we would have another high end pick... A third bursts my bubble a bit, but none the less, it's still a good pick I guess

On first thought, most people said this deal was awful for Montreal. When you look at it, one year after the deal was made, here's how it turned out to be:

Boston gave up: Kyle McLaren, 2nd rounder
Boston received: Jeff Jillson

San Jose gave up: Niklas Sundstrom, Jeff Jillson, 3rd rounder
San Jose received: Kyle McLaren

Montreal gave up: Jeff Hackett
Montreal received: Niklas Sundstrom, 3rd rounder

The Bruins lost Hackett because of his UFA status, and gave up McLaren & a pick only to get Jillson. Also, the Sharks gave up a lot as far as I'm concerned to get McLaren (Sundstrom, Jillson and a 3rd). All in all, I think it's safe to say we got the better out of this deal. Maybe we didn't receive anything, but considering what we gave up (Hackett and his 3M contract, plus his UFA status at that time), it's a pretty good deal.

Man I forgot about all this, all and all it was a good deal, even if at the time I tought it was the most stupide thing. It was mostly hacket going to Boston that got under my skin!
