He wasn't too slow until about the year before, due to age. He was serviceable in the games prior to that.

still think he's serviceable but as a #6 dmen who provides toughness along with solid PK work, those aren't worth much more than 1 million.

I would take Murray at 1.0/1.5 over Engelland at .550 for the PK alone, and his fighting only secures Engelland's departure, for me.

Not that the Penguins could afford to do that anyway.

Douglas Murray... Worth two 2nds at the trade deadline. But not worth an NHL contract through July. Good job selling at the right time by SJ.

He did very well for the Pens. Not sure why no one's looking at him.

To be fair, he did what Pittsburgh needed of him (PK and good defense). Probably only worth one second but it is what it is.

Probably holding out for a multi-year deal (3+)

He is still one of the strongest players in the league. I'm sure there's been plenty of teams that have thrown one year offers at him.

He was very specific to the Penguins needs last year. We needed a big defenceman who took up space (check), wouldn't get knocked around (check), and could play on the PK (check). He also happened to fit perfectly with a small, quick, puck-moving defencman like Niskanen. It was a perfect situation for Murray, and not one that can be replicated by placing him on any given team. He'd have to be the only slow third pairing defenceman on that team, paired with a quicker PMD on a team that really needs defence. A cursory glance indicates that there are not many teams like that, so there's not going to be any type of bidding war, thus such a team could sign him at their own leisure.

Not much of a player anymore but damn. His hits alone are worthy of a contract. Hopefully he'll find somewhere to play and to see him dish out a few heavy hits

I'm sure glad the Penguins gave up 2 2nds for him and now he apparently can't even find someone to sign him...

Not sure I agree, think he has always been a blit slow and 'clumsy' on the skates. But hey, he can throw a punch and some nice hits here and there. What team would sign him?

Does that mean Grabovski's not any good either?

Hard for the instant gratification generation to process, but sometimes it simply takes time for players to find the right team at the right dollar.

You keep saying this, but it's simply not true. Look around. Pens fans were satisfied with Murray's performance because he fit our needs very well.

He delivered exactly what we expected of him, which is more than we can say of Iginla and Morrow.

Maybe Minnesota, a good partner for Ballard.

I don't want him on my team, but I can certainly see teams where he is better than other options.

I'd rather have Murray on my D over a guy like Bouillon. Wouldnt mind seeing the Habs go after him and acquire him.

He was slow before but his body was in great condition. Once he got a throat injury in the 2011-2012 season he started going downhill and became too slow.

If you add Murray and send out both Niskanen and Engelland they could.

Murray is the true embodiment of the statement "unstoppable force meets immovable object"

Problem: He's aged considerably and slowed down. He's worth around 1-1.5mil IMO.
