My guess for next season: Scuderi-Letang Orpik-Martin Despres-Bortuzzo Engelland *Niskanen could well be traded

Yah I can't say one way or another. I have to go by prospect write-ups and the like but I think as a group we tend to over-hype the quality of our best prospects sometimes, expecting too much of them. If he ends up a legit Top 4 guy even better but my sense is if we had guys like that in our bottom pairing we'd be in really good shape depth-wise in a couple years.

Anyway everything I've read (excluding random opinions here), I'd be disappoint also if we let him go before giving him a shot. He seems (like Bortuzzo) to fit a need on our D that we currently don't have.

Haven't been on lately. Went to the main boards and found this out with it down the list a bit here.

Glad he's locked up.

Adding three 6'4 blue liners in the next year in Despres, Dumoulin and Bortuzzo. Although with our forward depth looking pretty atrocious, I doubt we'll see all of them together for any considerable amount of time since we'll likely need to use one as a trade chip. Rightfully so with our top prospects pushing for spots in 2014.

Still would be awesome to see a blue line with....

Despres/Martin
Scuds/Letang
Dumoulin/Bort

We're not getting pushed around our net in that scenario.

I'm not sure if you're going to be pleasantly surprised when you get a good look at him or disappointed. Size aside, he and Bortuzzo aren't very similar.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Orpik is (or will be soon) being shopped. We aren't going to re-sign him after this year.

I would be ecstatic if Orpik was traded before the season started.

And they aren't going to trade him either. The Penguins aren't sellers.

Agreed. I have no idea why we have so many posters thinking Orpik will be traded. They're out to lunch, imo.

The Orpik/Martin pairing works. They got Scuderi to solidify the Letang pairing. Despres and numerous others make Niskanen very expendable. It's not really complicated to figure out how this is going to go. It's just a matter of time before Nisky is dealt. Shero's likely just taking his time to try to get the best possible return.

I'm wondering if he might be a 4-5 tweener. IE an average 2nd pairing guy or a really good 3rd pairing guy. Either way I don't want to see him moved until we at least give him a shot.
