J.M Liles to? For a 3rd

Are there any teams that could use J.M Liles (and could fit him under their cap)? My asking price...a 3rd round pick. I do believe that he is still a good D-man, and his value is actually higher than this, but right now the cap space is more valuable to Toronto.

His contract takes him to the 2015-16 season at a cap hit of 3,875,000.

Don't need Jackman. Drop him and you got yourself a deal.

I'll take just 4th, we can't have salary coming back. (need the space for Kadri/Franson)

An almost $4M cap hit, with 3 years left on the deal may scare teams away. Especially considering his play seems to be regressing a bit. Why wouldn't teams look at signing a guy like Gilbert at a cheaper cap hit/shorter term instead?

Sad thing is, he is actually worth his cap. 3,875,00 isn't bad....we just don't have a spot for him.

jackman's cap hit is only 612k. we could easily jsut bury him in the minors

True, but for a team with the space, (and the need) they get a very good PMD with experience for under 4 mil....at the cost of just a pick.

He'd be a lot easier to move if he only had a year left on his deal. That's going to be a take what you can get to move that contract situation.

An asset for an asset trade may not be possible. However, packaging Liles with an asset like a third round pick for future considerations could work.

Toronto will have to pay extra to trade him. teams know their cap bind.

A team may say Liles + TOR 1st 2014 for teams 3rd 2014.

Liles + very good prospect for crap prospect

I agree, but we would be basically giving them a good player....let them bury Jackman.

We have the option of buying him out, so a deal like this is laughable.

Ottawa says Liles for future considerations, not worth much with that cap hit for 3 years.

Jackman in the minors wouldn't count against our cap.

Liles + Blacker for a 3rd or 4th.

We have quite a few D prospects now, we can afford to get rid of Blacker. Liles is worth his cap hit, but I agree the contract was too long. With Gardiner and Franson coming on last year, and Rielly on deck, he just has been bypassed. Nothing has changed about his play.

We had 2 players file for arbitration (Fraser/Gunnar), this opens up a 48 hour window for buyouts.

The Maple Leafs have already used their two compliance buyouts. So they could buy him out with a regular buyout if they want to have a 1-2.5 million caphit on him for the next 6 seasons.

Better than paying a 1st to move him. The cap will increase each of those 6 years making that hit minimal.
