I'm sure now that Nonis knows what he has to work with, (Fraser deal done) he will get this signing done.

With only 4.9 million in cap space, do you think that is enough for Kadri and Franson. You would think Kadri gets at least 3.5.....

In my dream world, Kadri gets ~$6M/2yrs, Franson gets ~$2.5/1yr. They can make that fit.

Hey Cody.... maybe if you'd accept a fair offer...you wouldn't be so "unsure" about your future.

Not sure why folks think that the Leafs can get more than fringe prospect and a second round draft choice for Franson. A team can simply offer sheet him for $3.3 M which the Leafs can't match and all they would have to give up is a second round draft choice.

Anything over $900k still counts against your cap.

I would think we'd keep him at 3.3. After that you're at 1st + 3rd and you may be able to get a GM to offer a 1st + 2nd for good relations. I suppose I could live with that.

We have a window to buyout Liles. Both Franson and Kadri will be signed.

Quick math.

If you bought out Liles, he'd still have a $1.16m cap hit for 6 years.

Assuming it takes $7m to sign Kadri and Franson, the Leafs would have ~$500K in cap space to work with. It is certainly attainable.

Why would Franson sign an offersheet at 3.3? he's obviously asking for more than that or he would've been signed by now. A GM is doing Nonis a favor by sending that offer sheet.

I was under the impression that the two players that filed for arbitration (Gunnarson and Fraser) initiated a window in the CBA for a compliance buyout that does not go against the cap. The keyword was filed.

Indeed, but it's not a compliance buyout. It's a regular buyout that'll result in a cap penalty.

I'm wondering who started the compliance buyout fallacy.

1. Any portion over $0.925M would count against the cap.

2. You would need to replace them on the roster with players of similar cap hits, unless you want the Leafs to play with a very short roster.

$4.5M

Any offer sheet just under the 1st + 3rd compensation (3.3-3.4?) would leave the Leafs with a very tough decision, especially since matching the offer means you can't trade the player for a year.

Think...

Except you've already used both of your compliance buyouts.
