Done deal.

I know were throwing away Liles for nothing but I can assure other teams he is not as bad as his contract. We just need the room and he doesn't fit in our system.

No deal. Minnesota doesn't need Liles, Minnesota needs a top-4 defensive Dman.

No from the Wild.

We don't need an overpaid bottom-pairing D, we have plenty of #5-6 guys already. Besides, I doubt we could fit Liles' salary under the cap. So thanks but no thanks.

Going to have to add a lot more than a third if you are looking for a team to use their other compliance buyout...

$3.875M for a #5 Dman through 2016 is a bad contract. No matter how you slice it. We had to use our buyout already on a similar player in Gilbert. He was a RHD PMD which is arguably more valuable in the NHL than a lefty. This trade would leave us jammed just under the cap and we would be no better as a team. No wiggle room for the inevitable injury call up every team has to do over the course of the season. Easy pass.

I still see Liles as a decent second pairing type who is worth his cap hit. His style and contract just aren't a fit in Toronto. He can still be an effective dman ( and is much better than Gilbert IMO) but I can understand that he doesn't fit the Wild's needs.

Fair enough. I do agree he is a slight upgrade over Gilbert. I was more referring to his skillset more than the actual player. I was not clear in that regard. Although I was never terribly impressed with JM Liles when he was an Avalanche. Not a bad player by any means, just not someone I ever coveted. It sounds like his play has fallen off a bit in Toronto. Although as I never see his play first hand I can only go by hearsay.

I think he's very tradeable if the Leafs absorb some of his cap hit

Doesn't really make sense from the Wild's perspective.

Wild can't afford to be giving up another right handed forward when we just traded both Clutter and Seto. With Clutter gone, Mitchell is now an essential part of our bottom six.

the wild lost 13 million dollars last season...

i don't think taking on big contracts for players that won't improve them isn't a smart business plan for their franchise.

No one ever said it's a great move for Minny. That doesn't mean you aren't clueless about the Wild's financial situation.
