Capgeek. The contract can slide. Donnay is 19.

http://www.capgeek.com/rangers/reserve-list/

It was rumored yesterday

Quote:
I have heard some talk about veteran D Troy Donnay being close to signing an entry-level contract with the NHL’s New York Rangers. It’s unconfirmed at this point. When reached by phone today, Donnay said, “I can’t really answer that right now.”

Donnay, a 6-foot 7-inch, 185-pounder from Fenton, Mich., attended the Rangers’ prospect camp earlier this month. Donnay confirmed that the Rangers have invited him to participate in the Detroit Red Wings’ annual Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., in September.

-39 with the Erie Otters last year in 68 games. -31 the year before in 27 games. I think the Otters are just really really bad.

You're (and JL) right in saying someone will snag him in the draft hoping that he fills out, gains some confidence and starts pushing people around in the defensive end. It'll probably earlier than we expect too. It always is for big defenseman like Donnay.

He's a project but I would think 4th round or so for him.

Very much a project. Very big and lanky, sounds like he moves well for a kid his size and has started to add an edge to his game. Erie was God awful this year. +/- shouldn't be taken into account.

I think we are starting to see Gorton and Clarke put their stamp moreso on this organization. McIlrath, Noreau, Graves and now this kid. The Bruins have a very large defense as well. It's difficult to play against all of that size and weight over a long playoff series.

Yet, the NHL squad is the softest its been in quite some time.

Theres a disconnect with Sather still holding onto power.

Not sure, that was all that was in the thread. They said a couple of times he skated well for a guy his size, so normally I take that to mean his balance is pretty good.

Sometimes its useful, especially when its eye poppingly terrible.

Apparently he was playing with an awful partner in London and then was on a terrible team in Erie. It happens.

I never find it useful as a standalone. Players with eye-poppingly terrible +/- are often the players who play the most even-strength minutes with a terrible team. I.e. their best players.

True, I know nothing about this lanky fellow or just how bad his partner or his team were, so Im not commenting on him.

But in regards to +/-, I only find it useful when 20 other guys on a team have solid numbers and 1 or 2 guys have putrid ones. It can serve in identifying weak links.

If it is WAY off the rest of the team then I agree.

Where are the know-it-all's!?

Stats should always be considered, but within reason of course. You know what they say; "Lies, bloody lies, and statistics."

His awful +/- is certainly inflated by playing on a horrible team.

6'7 185??? Is that even possible? First thing the Rangers should do is feed him some steaks. He's definitly a project, could be a diamond in the rough who knows. The only the appealing about him right now is the fact that he's 6'7.

Based on this, I pray that his D-partner was not Tommy Hughes...

Connor McDavid (2015 draft) and the second leading point scorer was a -24 on that team. Donnay and McDowell had the worst +/- on the team, I'm assuming they played on the top pairing and were just simply overmatched.

His weight is correct. 185lbs.

He is a defensive d-man who keeps it simple from what I have read.
