I'm not surprised, D talent in the KHL is really thin isn't it?

Talent in general is pretty thin in the KHL outside of Kovy & a couple of young guns waiting to make the jump to the NHL. Patrick Thoresen has been a top 5 scorer the last couple of years in the KHL if you need proof of that.

I think a lot of guys that get signed from the KHL who are NHL vets are just to give credence to the league of having guys who have played in the NHL. In Foster's case it is just another name to add to the list of NHLers playing in the KHL.

Rumors aplenty now that Seattle is going to be getting an expansion team and start icing a team in 2014-2015.

Mitch Ivey was the one who started the rumors.

Expansion draft?????
Who do you protect? Let's say it's like the last single team expansion draft: Each franchise was allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards.

I'd go with the first choice...

Goalie: Mason
Defensemen: Coburn, Streit, Schenn, Grossmann, Gus
Forwards: Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, VL, Couturier, Read, Hartnell, Laughton (if necessary), if Laughton is not necessary I'd protect Talbot.

Then I'd make a deal with someone to not draft Rinaldo.

How would an expansion draft work?

Edit: got it

I imagine one of Quebec, Las Vegas or similar (Kansas City) would be getting a team at the same time, making the "conferences" even with 8 teams a piece.

Is the any way we could protect no goalies??

I would pretty much do the same thing DFF would do, we would only worry about losing Rinaldo/Talbot/Hall/Rosy and thats about it. Hopefully they take Prongers cap hit to reach the floor!

A man can dream right?

I would have to guess that guys signed to ELC's would be off the table.

If Quebec gets a team then Columbus is moving back to the Western conference. The rest of the East aren't going to stand for having only 8 teams out of 17 make the playoffs.

Also in other news, actually looks like Buff has lost a good amount of weight with recent pictures circulating from a recent charity event I believe. If he lost a good amount of weight and has corrected his off ice issues, I wouldn't mind him here. Just would be afraid to see the asking price, but I will not give up Schenn or Couts for him, no way no how.

I don't think Winnipeg gets into the playoffs again, and a lot of media are speculating they really shouldn't have locked up all those young players to big contracts. They have yet to produce anything concrete to prove they have what it takes to make it to the playoffs.

Probably. The wikipedia entry just gave the parameters I listed so I went with that. If ELCs are excluded that makes it a lot easier.

Yeah I would think either someone would have to move back to the West, most likely CBJ, or both expansion teams would be in the West (Vegas, KC, Portland, somewhere in Western CA).

Quebec are building a great new arena that will be ready in 2015. I think they will get a team somehow.

All the players they signed this offseason are good and the West is the easier conference to make the playoffs now. But it will come down to their goaltending. Pavelec wasn't much better than Bryz in 2013.

Expansion draft?????
Another source..

Quote:
Joe Yerdon of Pro Hockey Talk: Seattle sports-talk radio host, Mitch Levy, said that Gary Bettman is pushing the Board of Governors for expansion and to include Seattle. The team would begin play in 2014-15 and would cost $275 million. Seattle would need to build a new arena. Bill Daly recently said that the Pacific Northwest was getting “serious consideration” for expansion or relocation. This would put the NHL at 31 teams, so another addition may follow with the usual suspects: Quebec City, Toronto, Portland, Kansas City, and Las Vegas.

I believe they would use the same arena the Sonics used as a temporary location until the new arena is built. I believe that was the plan when they talking about Seattle taking over for Phoenix next year.

31 teams is less awkward that the east having 2 extra teams.

I suspect we'll be at 32 teams shortly.
