Tootoo?

I just saw/read an article that says Preds have been/are in talks with Detroit to bring back Tootoo?! Maybe...

I liked Tootoo, hated those horns though! But why in the world would we do that! I mean we just resigned Spaling for a yr, not sure why we did that, and others! That would make no sense to me whatsoever! Anyone have any insight on this?

Sorry, I didn't see anything with his name and wasn't sure how long the info had been out there.

No thanks. We already have enough money tied into fourth liners. We don't need another $1.9m

We've turned the page and there's no reason to go back.

I've seen the chatter, but it makes 0 sense to me. He is the last thing we need right now. All I can think of is that we would have to make a deal first involving a few of our bottom six guys, like Spaling, Gaustad, Smith, etc. and Tootoo would then take their spot.

Otherwise, unless it's Tootoo++ for nothing, makes no sense.

It would only make slight (very slight) sense if we can dump cash on the Wings, but that is what they're trying to do. Makes zero sense.

Sweet. Poile is obviously planning on playing three second lines and two fourth lines in rotation next year.

I'd be willing to bet these rumors are bogus

So for fun....

Wilson-Fisher-Hornqvist
Stalberg-Cullen-Legwand
Bourque-Hendricks-Tootoo
Clune-Guastad-Nystrom

That could start a bunch of rivalries for sure and would be a very high energy game.

It would bring a lot of energy but this whole offseason is confusing. IMO I thing Beck, Watsin and Forsberg are NHL ready and could make some noise. But idk anymore im getting more and more confused every year now. I though this offseason was about Offence and I think the only way to fully develop a prospect is to play them as they ripen as a player. But IDk anymore wish there was more analysis on the Preds to get and idea on what is going down. But back to the post I can see this being lines. It would really make it hard to play against us.

So basically two second lines and two fourth lines?

I think it was just Detroit needing cap room and just looking to see if we would be interested in bringing Tootoo back. And because it's Detroit and Tootoo and Nashville, and most importantly summertime, I think it got made into a bigger deal than it actually is.

Detroit needs cap space. We have no roster spots available for a third/fourth line energy player.

I would take 22 back under different circumstances. Would rather have 22 than Hendricks.

I could see a place on this team for a guy like tootoo. you can't be too tough, or bully enough in the NHL. At the very least, it creates more competition, and provides more insurance in the event of injury. Again, it is not my money, and I would spend to the cap. You add Tootoo, I bet you could find somewhere to send Smith and Spaling, even if it were the minors.

Tootoo brings energy ... that's it. He doesn't play special teams ... doesn't score goals ... isn't a setup guy .... he's just a pest. We already have 15 forwards for 12 spots, Tootoo is redundant and unneeded.

The one thing Tootoo brings that no one else brings is the ability to drop the gloves and win once they're off. He also has the uncanny knack of being able to change the momentum of a game with a thunderous check. Can any of the redundant pieces do either of these? Clune misses more checks than even Tootoo does. The other guys do not bring the intimidation factor Tootoo does.

While some say he's one dimensional, Gaustad is a face off specialist. Those who say he's good on the PK are the same that complain that Spaling is poor on the PK. How can that be since both were usually on the ice together?

All that said, I'd take Tootoo back in a heartbeat. Trade Goose. Hendricks in the middle with Tootoo and either Nystrom or Clune on the other wing. You want to talk about chaos on the ice and hard to play against, that's it.

Nystrom and Hendricks both throw some pretty big hits, maybe not on Tootoo's level but they're still pretty big.

you are right, he does bring energy to the crowd, which the team feeds off of. A guy like Clune does not have the connection with the crowd like Tootoo did. He is a grinder-20 points a year or so.

As far as the special teams go, he hasn't, but that doesn't mean he can't, as he has had (little) PP and PK time here. If Legwand can be counted on as a savior on the wing after 2 games, Tootoo can play special teams. I would rather have him on the roster than Smith.

Contracts aside, I have to admit that would be a fun line to watch as a spectator.
