Leafs may be willing to roll the dice with one of the 3 youngsters making the team this season.

Percy, Granberg, or Rielly. If Franson is asking for the moon. Liles is going nowhere as long as Franson remains in limbo.

Leafs do have options, signing Franson though nice may be unrealistic if he has out priced himself.

Rielly might be ready to take on sheltered minutes... but Percy and Granberg? isn't it a bit too early in their development to throw them to the wolves?

Granberg has way more experience against high level compition and against full grown men than Reilly.

Surprisingly enough, I think Granberg is probably more NHL ready than Morgan Rielly.

He's a great prospect and a lot of people are going to be wondering where the heck this guy came from. I'm quite confident in saying Granberg will be a top four physical defensive d-man in his prime.

Haven't seen him myself but Granberg has apparently looked really good against higher level competition in the SEL and in the World Championships... Percy definitely has no chance

Granberg is also a righty which the Leafs need as they have 5 lefties and Franson

The last thing the Leafs need is a left handed offensive d-man like Rielly right now

even if Granberg has played against men in Sweden, the NA style of game is completely different.

not saying he can't cause a few surprises, but chances are he's gonna spend the whole year in the AHL.

You are likely right but Granberg looks like a steady steady dman who can lay people out as well.

Wow really that many teams are under 4 Mill? Thats crazy.

I wonder how many of those teams still have 2 key players left to sign

Not terribly surprising though. It's the offseason, so there are a lot of teams with players counting towards their cap that will be LTIR'd or waived/buried as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

The Leafs can go over the cap signing their RFAs right now. They'll just need to find a way to shed some salary prior to opening night.

It's safe to say the relationship with management is somewhat fractured between both these players and their individual clubs.
Why is Gudbranson disgruntled exactly?

Losing Cody Franson would be a mistake in my opinion. Kid played well down the stretch and showed some gumption in the playoffs.

Trade JML for cap space!

I hate to say it but we may have to trade Kulie if there are no takers for JML.

I think Leafs would just need to include the right incentive, obviously it won't be cap retention since you guys need the space, just might mean giving up a better D prospect, which shouldn't be a huge deal for the Leafs as they appear to have a handful of decent to good D prospects in the pipeline.

I hope the Avs offer sheet him, put the pressure on the Leafs and possibly make them choose between him and Kadri

If it's really only about the Leafs cap trouble and he would be amendable to signing a reasonable offersheet ~3m fine, but I really wouldn't go extending offersheets jeopardizing the Avs 1st.

This. Reilly may have the higher ceiling, but that doesn't mean necessarily he is a lock, Granberg's skill set seems to be exactly what the Leafs are needing right now.

The Leafs would take Kadri, no real threat here.

The Avalanche would be smart to pursue him, but they'd be smarter to offer up Duchene. Too bad they can't offer O'Rielly, and won't offer MacKinnon.

Makes no sense for the Avalanche to keep all three centers, long-term, when they clearly need a lot of help on the back end.

Whether or not Duchene for Franson is enough for the Leafs to flip is up for discussion, however. (most would probably think not).

But I seriously doubt the Avalanche go the offer-sheet route. They've never done that before in franchise history, IIRC.
